« on: December 05, 2013, 04:01:04 pm »

Hello, I'm a new user of Outerra and I really like this wonderful engine.

I'm trying to use the flight path recorder but I can't succeed... Press Ctrl+P, ok but after ?
(nothing happen if I insert points and press the play button)

Normally it's used so that you fly in UFO mode and insert waypoints while flying. By default the shortcut for waypoints is on the Enter key, but I remapped it to the X key (in iomap.cfg, add_waypoint) to be able to insert waypoints with the left hand while controlling the camera with the mouse.

If you do it this way (while flying), the inserted waypoints will inherit current speed value. If you insert the waypoint while standing still, the speed will be 0. By definition, with zero speed on two consequent waypoints you can never get from one to another, and that's most likely why "nothing happens".
You can edit the speed value anytime though.

Thank you for your help, it works very well.

But now, how to remove the flight path recorder panel which appears on the picture or on the video when I make a capture (my final goal) ? Is it possible to hide it without stopping the recorded flight ?

Alt+P is the shortcut to replay the saved flight path.

Sorry for a noob question.... What is flight path recorder for? Is it possible to use it as flight path for "ai" aircraft? For example,  i will make a path as you described above, add an aircraft that will fly on this path, then add another with myself and I will be able to fly behind the 1st aircraft like a wingman? Or it is not possible to make?

Right now it's just for the UFO (free camera) mode, defining a flight path for recording videos. But it will be extended to handle situations like you described - assigning a flight path to an object and multiplexing several tracks to make more complex scenes.

Tried assigning it to "X" but nothing happens when I am pressing the button, it keeps working with "return" instead. Any solution?

You have probably edited the wrong file (it should be iomap.cfg in data dir, not the iomap.cfg.default in program dir), or the wrong entry in it.

Yep looks like I was altering the wrong file, thank you!

Thanks.  This works great.  I could not figure it out at first but the "X" needs to be capital X.  I was putting in lower case x and it did not work.

Way better this way.
