Title: impossible to start: shader compilation failed (: grass)
Post by: shiopat on July 31, 2016, 06:35:03 pm
Hi my name is Patrick,
I've a serious problem to open Outerra tech demo after installation... I read a lot in web and this forum in order to solve problem, but nothing is solving.
All sems loading fine during "initializing world" process, until appears the little window "Fatal error" with following information:
"exception: OpenGL error: shader compilation failed (: grass)"
 And outerra close

I've a very powerfull Dell workstation:
Intel Xeon E5504 2.00Ghz 2 processors
RAM: 16 GB
Windows 7 64bit
Nvidia Quadro Fx 4800
and all drivers and openGl updated...

....so I have no more options.
Please, How can I do to solve and start Outerra?

It looks like a bug in the drivers for (quite old now) Nvidia 200-series GPUs. Unfortunately all our old 200 series cards died so we have no easy way to test it.
Can you post your eng.log in case there's some more info?

We'll try to get an older Nvidia card here. It's the unfortunate bug that Nvidia fixed in later drivers but discontinued support for older cards before doing that ...

Very many thanks,
So, is my "Quadro FX 4800" consideres as an "old card" ?
and in this case I have no possibility to use Outerra, isn't it?

Ever since Nvidia discontinued support (http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3473/~/eol-windows-driver-support-for-legacy-products) for these cards, they are indeed considered to be "old". Our support for them is necessarily limited as well; in this case it should still work but we need to provide a workaround for the old driver bug. Provided we get our hands on a working 200 series card, we can have the fix in next patch.

Just to confirm, I have the same problem on my gtx 275. No pressure though, I don't have the time to fool around in Outerra anyway.

I have exactly the same problem with the same error message

Exception OpenGL error: shader compilation failed ( :grass)

I have
Windows 7.1 ( 64 bit)
Intel Xeon W350 2.8 GHz
NVIDIA  Quadro FX 4800

I will eagerly look forward to the next patch as well then.
