Can we downlaod the full elevation data with a torrent? and put it in the data folder?
Downloaded as you go was quite slow. :'( And this could also help to release data server stress. :)
edit: Download the full data at #3
-
I'll be putting the data on torrent soon. The automatic download will still kick in if the data are changed later though, but it should happen only occasionally.

That's great, thanks!

You can download it to your data dir\ data folder.

Mother of god.
Thank you so much. :o
-
I get a error: access denied. Do I have to remove my already existing files ?
-
I am trying to download in a desktop folder now.
-
The torrent isn't downloading anymore. Problems in the server ?
EDIT: working again.
-
Yeah my earth.torrent died at like 62%.. I shut it down, cleared the peers and started it again. For about 10 seconds it connected back the the outerra.com seed and then disco'd again. Just sitting there now.
-
I'm at 99.9%, but I have a bandwidth cap, so I've capped upload at 50Kb/s. I haven't gotten a connection to the seed for at least a day, but I honestly am not worried about it. If I ever run across that 1 segment that isn't downloaded.... it will download!
-
me too, idle at 99.9% ... missing about 10mb... :-\
-
me too, idle at 99.9% ... missing about 10mb... :-\
same here - after two nights letting it download and seed ;-)
-
Let's .. 99.9% is the new 100% :)
Able to identify the missing piece?

Able to identify the missing piece?
So instead of the 1%, it's now the .1% :p
Alternately, it is most likely Angrypig's and Cameni's Ultra-Secret Base-of-Operations to herd the rest of us like sheep, and wipe us out if we get too aggressive in Anteworld.
Angrypig: Brano, Zeos is trying to take over the world again. He just hit Shawn's outer defenses.
Cameni: Laco, to the desert with Zeos. Nuke him.
Angrypig: Was hoping you'd say that, but Shawn is also getting territorial, and just took out 2 small settlements that new users just purchased.
Cameni: To the desert with Shawn too, then.
ZeosPantera logs in: ZeosPantera dies in a blaze of fire
Cshawnsmith logs in: Cshawnsmith dies in a blaze of fire
ZeosPantera: WTF?!?
Cshawnsmith: /tells ZeosPantera Remember that thread so many years ago about that .1% data download?
ZeosPantera: /r Yeah?
Cshawnsmith: /tells ZeosPantera Yeah, there's your .1% right there.
-
I'm at 81.7% but outerra.com disconnects sometimes or I only get ~200KB/s.
Download now if you want. I seed with up to 700KB/s.
-
Instead of war I think I will just put random 1's and 0's into a text file and rearrange until all the missing bits form.

-
I'm now at 99.9% too ... here is a pic of the data I don't get ...
-
Hmm, why is the earth.torrent embedded in there ...
-
It wasn't me ;D ;D
-
I know :D
It embedded itself to the torrent, because I told it to save the torrent in the same dir that was being added. Http seed doesn't serve such file so the chunk can't be completed.
But now the problem is that the torrent file isn't the same as the torrent maker thought it was when packing it there ... since it had to write the checksums, thereby changing it :D
Now what.
-
26k/sec. Brutally slow, will take almost 3 weeks to get :(
-
I still stand by the premise that Angrypig and Cameni are the 1% (er, .1%) in this instance.
When you finally download that final percent, a popup will read:
"Beware all ye who enter here. There be dragons (or angry pigs)."
-
Well if you can figure out what the 99% we got is.. You can just serve the 1% that is remaining.
-

Maybe we should compare our missing files? Take a look at my screenshot.

I'm now at 99.9% too ... here is a pic of the data I don't get ...
I guess if you put them in name order it will be easier for cameni to find and upload them. Once you and I have them and put them in the torrent directory we can stop and restart the torrent and it should go to 100% and seed to the rest of the bunch.
BTW.. I am pretty sure you could just use what you have downloaded and you would just be missing 1% of the world pre-loaded.
PS>.. I am assuming I can't go into the data.cfg and change path = "C:\Anteworld" to path = "S:\00 INCOMPLETE\earth" (where the incomplete torrent currently resides on my networked torrent machine) since there is no "DATA" directory in the torrent's creation path. I would need to stop the download and put the earth folder in a data folder for this to work?

earth.torrent :P
-
It's the earth.torrent that's causing it. Dumb torrent creator inserted itself into the torrent, and then it modified the torrent file with the final checksums. That means I can't just put the earth.torrent on the server so you can get it, because it would be a different earth.torrent that the one that was originally put into the torrent file, and the chunk download would fail anyway.
-
So we just need to download a new torrent with the correct settings?
-
OR alternatively you could just give us the wad files.. It would never finish to 100% but it wouldn't matter. Everyone would have the real files and I could just tell utorrent not to download the alternate.. earth.torrent file and I would be sitting at 100% and seeding. Sort of a suck system but what are you gonna do.
-
Is the data downloaded with this torrent usable now?
-
I don't think so ... we can just wait for a message from our master cameni :D
-
Ok, here's what you can do. I've uploaded a fixed torrent: earth.torrent (http://outerraworld.com/appdata/Anteworld/earth.torrent)
Now to avoid downloading it all again, you can do the following (using uTorrent but I guess it's just as possible with other clients):
- add the torrent using ctrl+d (that will ask you to choose the save dir), choosing the location where you have the earth folder downloaded previously, but uncheck the start torrent checkbox
- while the torrent is in stopped state, right click on it and select Force recheck
- once it's done checking you should have your 99.9% back, but this time it should be able to download the remaining data since the erroneous file was removed from the new torrent
-
Worked better then I expected ... I just added this torrent in utorrent and it started automaticly to check the data which was allready there. Well done cameni :D
And now I can seed for ya all :)
-
.
-
I'm pretty sure because the software should work in the same way.
-
Yep, it works.
-
Sorry if I missed part of the conversation but what is the new data exactly? Does it replace the default with a higher resolution version or?
Cheers!
-
You mean the new torrent file ? The older one was bugged and you couldn't download some data files, so they fixed it with a new torrent, and you don't have to re-download all over again if you already did, the client automatically checks the files.

No I mean the whole standalone elevation, is it to replace the one that comes with Outerra or what is it exactly?
Cheers

It's about 13GB of elevation data (the ones that come with Outerra, just all of them) ... that you would download in parts if you went everywhere on earth in Outerra (would take days or weeks ... ;-))) ) ...
It's to avoid download ... (and in case some chunk of data changes on the server, only that one will be re-downloaded on your machine ... ) ...
So ... it's a win-win (you don't get those download windows, and server will be less busy ... ) ... if you have free space on your HDD ... ;-)))
-
What he's trying to say is... ::) The game automatically downloads the earth data as you explore it in the game, but if you want to, this torrent is an option to download all of it without having to be in-game traveling around the entire planet. Both the data in this torrent and the data that the game downloads are the same.
-
Hum, i'm downloading it at 80Ko/s ...
Normal or is just locked at 100Ko/s max?
-
Oh great now I see thanks :)
-
I get a crash to desktop when copying the files in to the earth folder. do all the files need to be there, so, wait until the download is finished? OR should i be able to copy wad files that have downloaded already?
-
You are getting crashes because the files are corrupted, not finished downloads.
-
OK thanks. I was patient and all finished downloading and working now. One thing though, there are elevation anomalies (as one may come to expect) I suppose the best place to note these are in the terrain issues section.
-
Yep! Be sure to hit the TAB key before submitting the screenshot, so the location is recorded.
-
Cameni,
I am wondering can you tell me what source Outerra terrain data is used from?
Is it SRTM or another? And, will you be updating the terrain with new data at any stage?
Thanks
-
Since I've been in alpha/beta (a month or two before anyone else :P) the terrain, I think, has undergone 2 revisions, possibly 3 ... Cameni can correct me on that.
The good thing about the terrain data is that when new data comes in with higher resolution, it can be updated almost seamlessly. Some of the roads/airports etc may need modifications from time to time, but that's a minor nuissance, and something I'm sure the Dynamic Duo can figure out for future modifications.
-
SRTM and ViewfinderPanoramas for some parts. Shame Aster is not usable yet.
We'll be updating the data, there are plenty of bugs on terrain, shores and elsewhere.
-
maybe you can make a bit of code that detects these bugged terrain and reports it in a fashion so its easier to find. You could even have it repair the terrain faults.
Just a thought, as it may make a mission manually finding and editing every terrain hickup.
-
one thought that was noted earlier was a mechanism to detect terrain higher than the highest point in a given area which would find all those really ugly staglitite type looking mountains. This also could be the reverse when looking for terrain that is inaccurately lower than what it should show.
-
While I think of it, Cameni/Angry Pig when would we know when a newer piece of terrain data is available? Will we be notified with a download link or will we need to keep coming to the forum and randomly finding this data?
-
I'll surely put a notice about a new terrain processing run. Otherwise, you'll see it downloading new terrain description files. Normally it just skims fast over these when checking if there are newer versions on the server.
-
Great thanks.
-
any chance someone could re-seed the torrent? I have a current ETA of 8 weeks...
-
My upload rate is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery low. I couldn't help even if I wanted to :/
-
I have been seeding unlimited on 8mbit upload for many days. But it never uploads anything fast or anything at all. Not sure of the issue with utorrent but I never seem to seed fast.
-
Which is why I don't use Torrent, and never plan to. In my brief experience of it, it's at best no better than regular download.
-
My +1TB of High Def movies begs to differ. And besides Outerra has a built in torrent at it's core. So you ARE using torrent and have NO OTHER CHOICE... AHAHAHHHAHAHAAAAA!
-
Thanks for the torrent
Now I will be able to travel in Outerra without nay slowdown :D
-
Torrent is subject to having correct PNP setup, if your PlugaNdPlay is not configured right it won't seed very well at all. The settings are in your modems configuration.
-
DL is still only peaking at 25 kB/s-
If there's anyone with a fat pipe willing to upload the whole thing to a rapidshare-type site, I can provide an account for uploading.
Or maybe someone with healthy connection can re-seed?
-
You could also open up 6 dropbox accounts and upload 2gb in each. Dropbox is fast and allows public links.
-
I'm thinking just compress the folders into a split archive (maybe 1GB or 2GB chunks) and batch upload.
I have a filedropper premium acct I could donate to the cause.
-
http://min.us/rTXAATv (http://min.us/rTXAATv) Use this link to sign up.. You will get 11GB of hosting on minus.. They allow 2 gig files but I recommend doing it in 1gig increments just in case one fails. Get someone else to sign up and you will get another free gig.. and so on. I have like 47 gigs now.
-
this still doesn't help me- unless somebody who already has the files uploads them.
the torrent currently has 0 seeds, and is basically stalled...
-
Hmm that's weird because there should be at least the http seed.
Maybe it's a problem with tracker.
-
The torrent is unstable. No seeds seems to be present most of the time (when I start the torrent client the first time I usually have very fast web site at peers list which allows me to download date with 6 MB per seconds for like 30 seconds - outerraworld.com - but after that it disappears promptly). Also, in the Trackers section I can see that udp://tracker.publicbt.com is timed out right after the start of the torrent.
Can you re-upload it to some other tracker, which really works? Thank you!
Update: Got following output in uTorrent Logger section, which happens simultaneously with outerraworld.com seed disappearing from the peer list:

As you see, unlike version 2.1.2, Version 3.1.3 of uTorrent keeps downloading some data from outerraworld.com, but still, shuts it down every minute. Tomorrow I will check whether this data will be in working state or not...
-
A torrent isn't the best method to get these files around (as community is limited atm), if I started re uploading my files now they be different and could corrupt yours.
-
I have had the torrent up seeding on my 8Mbit upload and it barely moves.
-
Because latest torrent apps are fault use 1.8.5, also if you modem is not allowing PNP to work correctly and you don't get a GREEN tick on the bottom then something is wrong and you will unlikely upload much.
-
You know what.. My router reset and it lost the open port.. Fixed.
-
finally finished.
"You can download it to your data dir\ data folder."
can't find this, can you be a little more specific?
EDIT: found it.
for the uninformed- "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Outerra\data"
-
Unless you told it to install the data somewhere else.
-
I downloaded entire Earth on my HDD. Where is your God now?
-
"You wouldn't download a car would you?"
HAHAHAHA
I just downloaded the EARTH Bi-otch!

lol
-
Hello to all,
I have a problem when I download the files, I have a high speed in first but after that torrent got down and I'm stuck with 6.5%, plus I have no problem with other torrents. So please help me.
-
Maybe because there is none uploading it and the server is too slow ? Anyway, I downloaded it. So if I did, you can do too ;)
-
Hi, I'm still have a problem in downloading the data, there is one seeder who is outerraworld and sometime others. so please add the data to a file hosting like mediafire.
thanks
-
I am still seeding. Well the new torrent. Not sure if Cameni ever updated the main link. The VERY first torrent was bugged.
-
The problem is that Bittorrent is not very good when there's just a few seeders. One failure and the client will blacklist the source and go for others. Try clearing the peer list.
-
2 weeks and i have less than 2 %, is there any other way i could download data?
-
2 weeks and i have less than 2 %, is there any other way i could download data?
You could slowly walk across the earth having it all load in normally until the whole earth is on your hard disk.
Cameni, since http://outerraworld.com/planetdata/ (http://outerraworld.com/planetdata/) is inaccessible from my browser does that mean it is inaccessible to the torrent programs as well?
-
Only the directory listing is denied, individual files are there.
-
I've uploaded one of the 6 folders (the largest one) to My Drive, please check if you can download it from there: earth z+ (https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BwftL40DNEd0b2o0WDUwWFJWYzQ)

I've placed "earth" folder inside /Outerra/data, but even with this some elevation data keeps being downloaded, and the files that is being downloaded already exist in "earth" folder!
EDIT: Looks like Anteworld is using C:/User/Outerra/data as source insted of D:/Outerra/data. How can I change the source path?
-
It uses what you told it to use during the install (the data path).
The easiest way to move it would be to reinstall it, otherwise the data path is in the data.cfg in the install dir.
-
During the install, I specified to install in D:\Outerra\, and in data.cfg the path is "D:\Outerra\data". Tryed to install again, C:\Users\ is still the source in use.
I'm using Windows 8 x64
-
How did you find it uses c:\users?
The path it uses to read terrain files is also noted in eng.log
-
I've made a search in all my HDDs for any *.wad files, and a bunch of them was in C:\User\Outerra\data\earth. If I delete this folder and start Anteworld, as soon as .exe opens a empty/blank "Outerra" folder is created in D:\ (as stated in data.cfg) and another "Outerra" folder is created in C:\User\, and this one is filled with folder and files, and is the source that Anteworld uses for content.
-> C:\User\Outerra\
\campos\
\data\
eng.cfg
eng.log
iomap.cfg
time.log
world.cfg
-
If you have installed the program with data in d:\outerra, it would have been already populated with all the config files and data. But you say that d:\outerra folder is created only after running the program, so there's something wrong.
From what you are saying it looks like neither the installer nor outerra.exe can access d:\ disk properly. Access privileges? Or something Win 8 specific?
-
The program was instaled in D:\Outerra\Anteworld. I've deleted everything, installed again a clean install in D:\Outerra\Anteworld, and setted source files to D:\Outerra. By the moment that i run Outerra.exe for the first time it's create the folder C:\User\Outerra as soon as .exe starts. Scary!
-
Hmm, lets go over it once more.
The installer asks for two directories: first the program installation directory (defaults to c:\program files (x86)\outerra\anteworld) and in the next step it asks you for the data directory (defaults to c:\users\yourname\outerra).
What did you set for these two? Can you attach your eng.log here? It should print the paths as well, maybe also providing some hints as to what's going on.
-
I was trying this, and source was being set to C:\Users\Outerra\
1st: D:\PC Games\Outerra\Anteworld\
2nd: D:\PC Games\Outerra\
Now I tried this, and worked.
1st: D:\PC Games\Outerra Anteworld\
2nd: D:\PC Games\Outerra Anteworld\
Now look likes everything is ok, except for a lot of erros like this on top corner: ERROR: Object "city/residential02" doesn't exist!
-
Thanks, I'll test it this way to see where the problem might be.
The errors are because the dev version doesn't contain all of the buildings from the old version yet.

Cameni, do these files differ from the original 11.8GB dataset that I would have downloaded back in April (ish)? Or, are there corrections in the elevation data? Will I need to download these 3 files?
-
No, these were only repackaged for easier download.
-
ok thanks.
-
I have begun downloading this, and I will seed. :)
-
when be Mars be available?
-
Such a shame the torrent is so slow :( 4kb/sec
-
Don't bother with the torrent, download from the direct links.
-
With the downloaded files, do i extract them into a directory called data? The reason I ask is, I don't have a data folder so I made one and it looks like this:
E:\Anteworld\data\+x\
E:\Anteworld\data\+y\
E:\Anteworld\data\+z\
E:\Anteworld\data\-x\
E:\Anteworld\data\-z\
-
These go into the data directory, not in the program directory. If you used default paths, the data dir is in c:\users\username\outerra, or else data.cfg in the program directory points to your data directory.
You will find your existing data subfolder there.

Thanks, it now reads
C:\Users\xxxxxx\Outerra\data\+x
C:\Users\xxxxxx\Outerra\data\+y
C:\Users\xxxxxx\Outerra\data\+z
etc...
But I just noticed there is an earth folder with these very directories in. Are they meant to go in there instead?

Hi, I'm new here and accidently downloaded the torrent. It's actually still in progress and the speed is quite good but was there another reason you said to download from the direct links and am I downloading useless files by using the torrent?
-
It's fine when it works for you, the data are the same - it's just that there are usually only a few seeders on the torrent.

Thank you. The speed dropped a bit but I'll just leave the torrent running and try to seed whenever I can once it's finished.
-
Well, I for one am glad the torrent is still up. That Google hosting service is rubbish. It won't work in Firefox for some reason, but when I try to use Chrome, the download craps out at the end. Left it to download one of the files overnight, only to find a "download failed" notice waiting for me in the morning. Babysat the damned thing from afternoon to midnight, only to see it "fail" literally at the last second.
If that were in Firefox, I would have a "retry download" button that'd just pick up the download where it left off, but since the damned Google website doesn't work in Firefox, I had to use the browser that $#%^ing auto-deletes "failed" downloads forcing me to start from scratch.
-
Actually... at this point, I think it's more like Firefox doesn't work with Google... ::)
Firefox hasn't been fixing what they break in their browser on several Google services. They've been pretty bad about it lately.
The browser has gone downhill since v3... and now they're on the rapid update cycle and it's now on v26 and has been slowly going to crap. :-\
-
Hmm. Well, either way, Chrome is a no-go since it won't give me the option to restart the DLs where they left off when they inevitably bork themselves. Firefox will, but the DL button on the hosting site doesn't work in FF.
Got the torrent all downloaded now though, so it's moot. Torrent turned out to be faster than the Google downloads would've been anyway (going by the speed I was getting with the one I tried to DL). The files in the torrent do appear to be outdated though, as Outerra is DLing new ones as as move around... which kinda defeats the purpose of downloading the standalone data files. :(
-
It probably only downloads the new color files, as those aren't in the torrent. Also, the in-game downloads are now served from dedicated servers (in the full version).
-
I have downloaded earth+y only and extracted in D:/user/monk/data . Anteworld refuses to run ( windows is checking for solution .. etc) in stand alone mode . We have a proxy at our end for internet .I have quadro fx 1800 with opengl 3.3.0 intalled . any help will be appreciated .
-
Proxy servers aren't supported for data download, you'd have to run in demo mode (-demo command line switch) to suppress checking for terrain data updates.
Is D:\user\monk your Outerra data directory? The data.cfg file in the install dir should point to the data directory.
-
Yes d:\users\monk\outerra is data directory . I have downloaded cvd.zip also . On execution , the window opens ,shows nvdia profile , gives options for username etc on clicking demo its checks for newer version and go for updating .... .for ever (?) . I am attaching eng.log .
-
That's eng.cfg, not log :)
As I said, proxy is not supported for terrain data version checks and downloads, and you would have to run it with demo flag, e.g. outerra.exe -demo
-
Sorry my mistake. I have run it with demo flag as mention , but still it is trying to connect www.outerraworld.com (http://www.outerraworld.com) ! . Do i have to download all the earth data file chunk . I have reinstalled the data it in d:users\Rakesh\outerra a privileged user account. I am attaching the eng.log
-
It will try to load terrain files it needs if you don't have them, even in that mode. It just tells it not to do version & update checks. Unfortunately, the log doesn't tell what file is being tried to be downloaded. +y only covers the area around the Indian Ocean - South Asia, Western Australia and parts of Oceania. But if you do a fresh install, also deleting the campos data, you should have all the data needed for the demo mode not to download anything more for a few 100 km around.
It may be also that you installed the data in a wrong way - the files should end up in d:users\Rakesh\outerra\data\earth\+y\ ...
-
Thanks cameni , I will try it . Does it require a internet connection in standalone demo mode ? .
-
I got it working . I got confuse with standalone and offline . I need to download base.desc files . I gives a warning that nview.dll ( nvidia) may inject / hook . Do I have to uninstall ? .Although it executing without any problem yet . Thank you.
-
Yes, the base.desc files are required, but they are included in the full install.
The inject warnings can be ignored, there's another mechanism that prevents hooking into the renderer (and possible stability issues).

I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I've downloaded the full 11GB torrent for the planet, however when I place it in the specified folder it still seems to download as I move from region to region (i.e. the terrain is all blurry just like before the download). However, I realized that I may need to download the _cvd component from the 3rd post of this thread. Unfortunately, the download seems to cut off at the end of it every time. Is there another way to download that section or do I not need it at all?
Thanks in advance.
-
_cvd contains extra biome data, and it is required as well, however it's a smaller part of the whole data. We'll have to create a new torrent for it, probably for both, in the self-installing otx format.

Ah right I see, thanks for the reply. I'll just wait until an updated version is posted then!
-
It seems that the full cvd.zip is unavailable. The Google account has been maxed out for the day. Could someone upload it to Mega, or make a torrent out of it?
-
Here's the cvd torrent: earth_cvd.otx.torrent (http://outerraworld.com/earth_cvd.otx.torrent)
-
Thank you so much!
Since it's in the otx format, will I be able to install it in Demo mode?
-
Yes, it should work in demo as well. OTX is technically a zip with the right structure, nothing fancy.
-
Awesome. Thanks :)

Hello.
Is this normal?
I have the entire planet downloaded and installed in a ram disk that can read at about 4000MB/s (way above the fastest SSD) and yet, when I turn around the camera I see many things popping up like it was a hard drive reading really slowly.
So I wonder if this is happening to all of you or is it something wrong in my PC.
This is the video to show you what I mean.

Outerra rendering (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBWylfAcRqE#ws)
-
That's not loading from disk at all, it's the speed at which the terrain generator produces terrain meshes if your terrain cache (on the GPU) is not large enough. You can help it by boosting the limit-fractal value in the terrain config.

Thank you cameni.
That didn't make any difference apparently to the "popping" issue.
I don't know what does what in the terrain menu so I just said fuck it, and maxed out the sliders to the right to find out if any make a visual change to that "popping up" thing I don't like. They certainly make the computer to run slower, but the aestetics look very similar to me.
But the "Terrain quality metrics" resolution did a big difference on the distance at which the game renders the terrain. So I did another video so you can see What I mean.
bandicam 2014 03 07 19 05 01 188 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L8F_xlo17w#ws)
So now that I have every slider to the right but still looking like the objets are rendered very close to the camera, is there a way to make the terrain quality look the best at a longer distance? And I mean far enough that I can't see anything popping up like that?
Thanks for you support, I love Outerra. ;D
-
One thing is popping when you turn, that's the cache problem. Another is the popping of the rocks when you move - that's the problem of missing smooth terrain transitions between terrain levels. Also, for higher perf graphics cards there will be an option to boost the terrain tesselation, that will help with the small rocks popping in.
Btw trying to putting every slider to the right is not a good idea, some combinations will actually make it worse :)

Do you mean worse in aestetics or worse in performance only?
I just try to find the way to make the engine render things at the longest distance from the camera.
Can you give me that combination if you know it please?
-
It can make it worse in both, because you can run out off cache and terrain will stop refining in places etc.
Terrain quality affects the overall resolution of the terrain, but some things (like the rocks) aren't currently included in the quality metrics, so they aren't affected as they should.
There's nothing more you can do about it now, but there will be more options and enhancements implemented for a better quality soon. We'll be probably doing a demo at a CG movie conference, so we have to enhance that part ;)

Anyways to have the torrents woirking on the files? plz they are all 404
Thank you
