Title: Ground Excavation - Earth Moving
Post by: ZeosPantera on December 10, 2010, 02:52:02 am
Before I forget to ask. Is it possible to simulate a backhoe's shovel or similar earth moving with the ground deformation in Outerra?

Tearing into the earth removing a certain volume of earth
creating a rough, textured hole
then the ability to dump that bucket onto the grass creating as small/soft/slumping mount of fresh textured dirt with the same volume of the dirt removed.

Army people inquired about the same thing, for fortification.

There are several possibilities how to do it. Trenches can be made as roads with a special profile - a rectangular section under ground and a conical above ground. There could be also a local heightfield overlay that encodes what you've dug and piled up.

Hell yes to this.

Would love a JCB digging with a friend trying to build stuff.

This is my favorite abandoned topic. Just imagine how it would look on the kickstarter if you just fly down from the moon to a back-hoe just toiling with exposed rich brown soil and piling it up next to the hole.

Or if you just fly down from the moon, mess up and then somebody has to dig you out of that rech brown soil....
