Title: AMD Catalyst Omega (...) driver - 14.12
Post by: Acetone on December 09, 2014, 12:06:59 pm
Just a quick info for AMD users, I've run few tests and the new Catalyst driver seems to improve perfs on Outerra. The last driver was really bad so it's good surprise.

I've run a test with the old and the new driver, above Talkeetna (http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2855.0) with settings a bit more high than usual :

Altitude |Old driver |New driver
2km |34fps/55ms |51fps/36ms
500m |31fps/60ms |46fps/41ms
Ground |23fps/59ms |37fps/47ms

I'm using a Radeon R9 270.
So, it's a good news  ;D

Wow, unexpected :)

Yep, not sure what they really changed to achieve that (the patchlog don't list anything directly related to OGL), but it feels a lot more smoother and responsive.
Some folks see improvements on various games, I can't say for sure, but in Outerra it's impressive !

There has to be a mistake. All driver updates should cause the game to fail and run poorly.

Ah ok, but thanks to marketing schemes, the 7650M GPU in that notebook is actually a renamed 6650M chip, so it suffers from the same problem as 5/6 series desktop GPUs.

That is strange. Thank you for the info

Magenta is a driver issue, on AMD 5/6 series you'd have to downgrade to 14.4 drivers until we find a workaround or AMD provides fixed new drivers.
