Title: Lens flare effect?
Post by: LeeP on May 19, 2015, 06:26:55 am
Been wanting to ask you guys this question, but didn't know where to post it exactly.
Ever thought about putting in a lens flare effect?

I personally only want to include the human-eye-lens flare effect, not the immersion spoiling I-am-running-around-with-a-camera effect :)

That's what I would think would be cool. Something very subtle. May even have an enable and disable function.

Not sure if lens flares are necessary when God-Rays are a possibility......

I find that DCS got it right with their edge engine. Check at 3:39

The screen kind of darken when the sun is in the view.

... MULTIPLE SEATS ! I cant wait to see that in the DCS, as possible WWII bombers could come up ... also, if the maps could be done by by modders, it would be really great for the DCS series. Remember when some folks done slovakia for the old IL2 Sturmovik and i havent had such a good feeling from a modded fly-map till the ME-DEM project. Crossed fingers for them guys.

God-Rays

These are called light shafts.

God rays is what you can find in the hand of the most unfaithful husband ever:

Hey.... I don't believe in God either, but God Rays is a hell of a lot more fun to say than Light Shafts.  :)) :))

I like the way they did that!   That's perfect!
The darkening of the sky though, seems it would be unnecessarily complicated.

LOL sorry..

Space Engine has a really nice looking effect. They have it where there's different ones to choose from.
If I'm not on Outerra I'm in that sim. Or some where in Steam.

God rays > lens flares.

But if you ever decide to add a lens flare in Outerra, don't use a dirty lens filter. I seriously hate it! Ever since BF3 came out, this is considered a "next-gen" feature. But it's unrealistic and annoying.

I don't plan any "glass" lens effects. I find it really annoying when you play some kind of a fantasy game (like Witcher recently) and suddenly the camera following it gets dirt and water drops. Even if it's 3rd person, I'm not following the guy with a camera, I'm the guy.

I would only want effects that appear in human eye, though they seem to be hard to define.

... like dust blown into your eyes, water poured or dropping on the eyeballs, swelling and itching after irritating substances fall into them ...  =D

From the real ones, i cant think of anything else than the corrona contractions due to light-intensity .... maximally when changing environments (Water-Air). So just darkenning and lighting the scene for the little moments is probably all (corrected on the light-sources placement on the screen).

Every once in a while you see your eyelids close in pain when a bug flies into your eye...

... hmm ... actually there are two more :

1.) when lower blood-pressure is in brain for an instance (standing up too quick), you see some little whytey-rainbowy dots flying around for a brief moment.

2.) Sometimes, you notice coagulated proteins floating around in the intraocular fluid. (its perfectly normal and they normally dissolve after some time again).

The most obvious one, carrying information too, is the dark/red veil when you are exposed to positive/negative G.
