The low FOV makes it look epic. 4:3 screensize is a bit narrow. Models look excellent..

TEETH GRIT!! GRRR

Played with architecture a bit. The models were not suppose for use in games, but Outerra handles them very well.

Interiors are usually divided from exterior scene, to reduce load on pc while modeling, so no. And the problem in Outerra with interiors on this stage is we don't have lights and lit textures yet, interiors wouldn't look right without them.

I agree, that's the way they build cottages in Russia, all are the same in one place :)

What are your settings? I get far more shadow errors.

Wonderful models, I got loads of em around but they have so many different materials/textures I think I´ll wait for the importer to do the DDS converting.

Great model, do you have it rigged for physics?

I had to tessellate arch models to shadows work ok, so many of house' polygons  are from that tessellation.

The motorcycle is not animated (and wasn't suppose to), but I can animate it quite fast when we be able to use physics, as well as optimize the mesh. Though texturing it to get proper soft shadows will take some time.

I will when sober up he he, if have any requests I´ll try to design it.
Just post some images of the type of building you would like to see.

I´m just gonna texture it a little bit though, it´s to tedious with 50 materials+, waiting for the automatic converter angrypig promise  :)

Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: ddenn on October 14, 2012, 04:58:38 am
Eventually addon makers will want to add their own events. In one of my planes for x-plane, Challenger 300 I made events for all shades on windows (12 of them), tables, playing music in passengers cabin etc.
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: cameni on October 14, 2012, 05:05:43 am
Yes, in theory that's possible even now, but we need to be able to make individual configuration for special events defined by models so that it doesn't mix with the global ones. In any case you would then be handling it the script.

Btw how are you getting used to the scripting (vs. whatever is in x-plane and other sims)?
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: ddenn on October 14, 2012, 05:11:31 am
There's an addon for x-plane, SASL plugin (http://code.google.com/p/sasl/) which adds Lua script support to x-plane, and I use it in almost all of my models. JS is a bit different from Lua, but not much. And overall the workflow is quite similar.

Can't say that about flightmodel though, JSBSim is completely different from x-plane's Plane maker.

Obviously the collision model needs work.. ;p

BUT the acceleration / braking system in general needs work. Those linear torque curves and the lack of a tire model really show through on these basic vehicles.

Yea I would love some basic global start/stop command for vehicles, until we get full scripting support  :)
Or at least access to the console, assuming that you can run javascript commands from there.

I think the planes already have a basic autopilot. If you release a Cessnas in midair it does an initial dive but then steadies and flies forever, and in Anteworld/jsbsim/systems/ there is an Autopilot.xml

Microsoft Flight was very much that way. Collision detection was handled by Physx and was very very accurate. (you could actually clip branches with your wheels and it would afect your flight path)

Flight simmers would be in there trying to do procedures and landings, and kids would be in there trying to ram them. Of course, the kids sucked, and could only really hit you if they caught you by surprise.

In retaliation, you could make all of them nearly instantly die by turning on heavy fog and listening to the curses as the crash-kiddies all hit the ground within 30 seconds!!!  ;D (didn't know how to read their instruments)

I think you might end up with two versions of Outerra-earth eventually. (if not more)

Sim-earth, and blow-crap-up Earth.  ;)

Suspension on the tiger may be too high/hard by default. I'd rather see the track disappear under the snow than it fly above it.

Here is the mod I did a few months ago

const MaxTurretYAccel = 150;//deg/s^2

Just wonder, how they do the tracks at BF3. But, maybe doing them like the leaf-springs would work out too, where the segments would get rotations and heights based on the wheels ... still, animated turning of them would be the most interesting thing. (cant quite imagine what the set-up and script should look like - but probably should think of something if i liked to do a tracked vehicle one day ...)

well ... there may be needed some interior stuff being generated - but the miscs (telephones, pictures, tables) are needed to be modeled additionally anyway. Otherwise, the generator had to be scripted to generate all the stuff (a separate for couches, lamps, tables) and place them accordingly (ktichen, bath ...). Maybe, if there be a set of these things, where just a special directory would be defined (where these interior miscs would be whyte a little info .txt for OT saying if its for the kitchen and the type of stuff), it could be great. Just imagine it would use the stuff in the directory and any thing added to it would be used accordingly in the inferiors whyte some probability trough the generator (whyte accordingly made changes for the importer to add stuff specially for this reason) .. AND some way to construct your own house-creations (in some stuff displacement document). (of course in addition of the whole-building import)

So the eagleman gave an idea about what could be a new ufo mode that would fly like a plane and that you can pan  the view, while going into into a different direction. What i did first is to disable the sound of the eagle man and fly with unubstructed view the way of the UFO. Then i tried to do the same with a plane, moving the cockpit view 40 meters forward and disabling their engine sound. The problem is that it gave me   sound errors warning so i could not get rid of the text window :(

I have heard more than a few comments that we need some smooth camera views to help people making videos. Stuff like rotate around the vehicle, Follow just behind the vehicle, flyby of the vehicle, follow behind the vehicle while matching its bank angle, etc.....

And yeah like you said, a fly without a vehicle ufo mode.
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: M7 on September 10, 2014, 01:10:22 am
The good news is that it's possible to have  that chasing camera view without Cameni/Angrypig coding anything. It would sure make things much simpler if there were that kind of UFO mode for video people but in the mean time, just need to hack some of those planes/birds.

I know i can't wait to make some videos of the new ground/tree/shading/AO update. It's going to be glorious to fly slow and low ;D
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: M7 on September 10, 2014, 04:05:11 pm
Ok, last one before the  next update ( i promise). So this is what a flying UFO mode could look like at ground level. The only thing i would add to the mode,  is some lag in the camera movement to smooth out panning, not easy to pan smoothly with the mouse. With head tracking though, it would not be necessairy.

I was very pleased to see to use the Eagle in your video, and congratulations!
You were better than me in 'run chase in flight !!
Just a little tip: to adjust the speed of the flight, you can use the command "brake" ("b" key if you have not changed the configuration of the keyboard). Airbrake and flaps are operated at maximum and causing a sudden drop in speed.
It can be very useful!

Brakes? Yeah that should make chasing a lot easier. At first it was really hard not to fly past the drone eagle. At the same time i found it was a nice challenge.

And yeah the skipping, i have a brand new drive for recording that i thought was a fast one (not a flash drive though ) and Outerra is not installed on it . Now it looks like it's still not enough  :'(  At this point the only solution should be to get a ramdisk software.

Yep excellent video! it got me to download movie-maker. So you're converting the yog to avi with ffmpeg instead of webm?

I actually went to the webm homepage and read through a few things, deciding how I could get it into a format that movie-maker would recognize, and found this very fast and compact freeware converter: http://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/index.html

I actually converted the clips to MP4 1080p, then when I was done had Moviemaker save the file as a 1080 MPEG-4/H.264 Video file.

As you can see, the output was of acceptably high quality, and over 4gigs of Outerra recordings was compressed down to 164megs!

My last movie took almost a whole day to upload to YouTube, and this one took only a little over half an hour!

I thought that was pretty impressive.
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: M7 on September 30, 2014, 08:52:19 am
164megs for 7+ min of video, yeah that's very impressive compare to the 700-800MB i get with webM.  Thanks for the details, i'll check this out.

Yep, time is sped up by a factor of about 10. It just made the flying environment more visually interesting, and is actually a bit of a rush when you are twisting and turning while the clouds are whizzing around like that.

No sane person would ever take a glider up in winds that fast in real life, though.....  =D

First video with shadowplay. It's quite impressive, it looks like it even records at 60FPS. The only downside is that it looks like 16bit color as posterization is  visible on low contrast  night time shades. In daylight though, it's not noticable .

Doesn't look like a hover, but he definitely has some good flying skills though. Also this helicopter is really drivable, I'm enjoying it really much. Nice flyby!

No hover but i think i have the perfect stick for heli. It's a cheap logitech extreme 3dPro. It  has twisting stick and its not too stiff. The throttle lever has almost no resistance so it's good to change throttle speed quickly cause to do quick manuever, you need to play a lot with throttle . I have a saytek 45 with pedals but for heli, i prefer this cheap stick.

Lol, so it was a stream where he was exploring Outerra on the go, because he bought it that day. It was a bit complicated since he doesn't know English at all, and, as you can see, Outerra renderer messed with YouTube streaming, so it turned out to be really laggy. Nonetheless, it got many views and helped vk community to expand to some extent, which is kinda cool  :)

I also suggested him to make a normal video trying out some notable add-ons, but after this mipmap issue a lot of them (eagle, dolphins) are purple on a distance, which is not aesthetically appealing. I selected those that don't have this problem and sent to him, maybe he'll publish something, maybe not.

In fact, what's happening is that after two or three minutes of video, I think the movie file is starting to be too big and interfere with the objects loading in engine (on my rig), creating visible stutters. So after a minute or two, I simply F9 two time as quick as possible to stop the recording and create immediately a new video file. A small cut is still visible, but it's better than stutters later :)

Nice presentation, the usual small mistakes ("geographic data is using Google earth") but he gives a good description of the engine :)
He had gathered info before doing his video, the most interesting is that he talks a lot about Anteworld, but he says he's also a sim enthusiast and had fun with the various vehicles.
He talks about the mods ("There are a ton of cool vehicles and buildings on the forums") and says that he really wants to see what will happen next (he wants rivers :) ). He was impressed by the accuracy of the landscape near where he lives (he's from Switzerland).

Try the link from its original site and its working ... not sure why this re-posted one shows up an "deleted" youtube user account.

I was blinking, because if they were military-sim guys, they would have been working through TitanIM, right?

Not so much ... this is an russian group and Titan IM is more a western tech venture. I did know about those older project of those Titan guys as it was quite a well known digital training thing for the US and some of the companyes doing similar stuff are presenting themselves quite openly in the US arms industry, cause of theyr way of getting cotracts for equipement. I cant say the same about ANY russian projects i know ... the only few i saw were just mentions from some TV-channels (like Zvezda) witch shown it just as parts of reports about digital training facilityes in the recent years. And i think its because theyre probably working at just a particular equipement given. Its no secret, that trainers for most transporters, and for example Sukhoi, were made by the same company as the transporters themselves ad thus people for those programs were hired by them and just for them only, so there was no reason to promote that software any more than just for theyr purpose. Mostly came to be sold just on mil-tech expos together with nation-bound contracts too, as part of packages with real vehicles ...

And the job sdescript says just as the same ... its for ЗАО"РАА"Спецтехника" (ZAO "RAA" SpecTech-nika). Thats one of the main research and production facilityes for aviation digital or electro-optic sub-systems. Practically, a Sukhoi/Mig/Mil/Yak bound project that is. The structure isnt odd, they were THE ONES making those equipements on demand for all since the soviet times. They dont do any "tenders" around there ... ( they know each other and all stuf is done like this in the RF military : ... comes Sukhoi guy to SpecTech guy and says "hey, we need this and that for this project"  and gets answered : "sure, await it as usual". ) Its not much a secrecy thing as its just the way they do stuff. Besides, its not the government doing much the component choices as the Sukhoi - they were given the tech. specs from the army and they get the aircraft done by themselves then. ( kinda like sub-contracts on some parts like resins and polycarbonate coatings form some polymer institute - somtimes even these companyes like SpecTech do another sub contracts for say cower hubs for radar-equipement as it has to be set for those particular vavelenghts and stuff, but still staying just on works with those institutions they know already decades long ).
Only other way done stuff are projects each of these ventures/companyes do on theyr own just for applying a good idea or money - kinda like that new anti-everything defensive system that did hit some helicopters this year. Those can be then seen at expos shown as separate systems.

BUT ... i cant shake that one sentence from my mind ...  (для платформ PC/PS4) - for PC/PS4 platform.   ... why would they develop anything for a PS4 is just out of my mind.

... doe, its kida off topic. Sorry. :D

I have to say, that when the clouds will be able to follow the contures of mountains, like in that Camenis promo-shot, such flights will be beautifull. Doe, if they manage to have quasi-correct wind speeds abowe and beneath mountaintops, than it will be a total skill to keep ya from crashing into one.

yeah i saw a tv documentary yesterday about the sierra nevada triangle where they say that hundred if not thousand of planes wreck litter the area. and flying near the mountain could be especially treaturous because of specific weather there and some 400 feet per second invisible downward airburst.

VFR skill... or radar altimeter and instrument flight rule.

Nicely done M7. The glider really gives a better sense of the scale of those mountains and the detail of Outerra. Time for some lights in that cockpit though.

I was wondering why lights had not shown up on other planes, but was determined to be patient.

Time for some lights in that cockpit though.
I've searched photos/videos for the ASK-13, Heinkel He-51 and Corby Starlet CJ-1 to see how the lights look like in real life, and even if these have any, but I wasn't able to find anything.
So my conclusion would be that in real life those planes do not have any lights, maybe because are piloted only during the daytime... I may be wrong though.

I was wondering why lights had not shown up on other planes, but was determined to be patient.
Since there was no interest shown in that direction, I thought I do that upgrade later.
Now that you are mentioning it, I'll try to upgrade my planes as soon as I can.

Thanks for your patience HiFlyer, and the others waiting for that. :)

Edit: Cool video M7! ;)

Bad M7!! Da' manual says leave da' clouds alone!  =D http://planeur-bailleau.org/docs/Manuels%20de%20vol/ASK_13.pdf

Levi, it looks like the original ASK-13 from flightgear actually already had lighting.  :)

As far as aircraft strobes on the glider, apparently its up to the user whether to install one and where. (or even whether to install one at all!) so you are probably free to use your imagination. I have quotes from pilots saying:

Quote
The Edinburgh University K13 has a bright yellow strobe on the deck just
behind the cockpit and is superbly visible on the ridge (which can get crowded
and murky) as a result. I'm all for them.

Quote
I've already discussed this with fellow pilots and the issue that always
came up was:-
where to mount them easily?

if put on tips of wings, then very difficult threading wiring through wing
internals to cockpit control/power area

if put on nose, then usually aero-tow hook in way

if put on tail tip, then gliders thermalling below you wont see you

conclusion so far is on belly of cockpit, forward of wheel, using a 360
degree viewable strobe lamp unit, maybe inset somewhat into belly skin to
minimise damage on landings, and as near CofG, should not disrupt
"balance/trim" of aircraft and elcectics/electronics far enough away from
compass to reduce any effect on that.

Good luck!!

Quote
Rules of the Air Regs 2007, Statutory instrument 734 Rule 50

"At night a glider shall display either a steady red light of at least 5 candela showing in all directions or alternatively standard red, green & white aeroplane lights"

A glider can remain airborne at night in ridge lift (the duration record for a glider flight is I believe 56 hours by ridge soaring) or in mountain wave.

Duration flights in gliders were getting to silly lengths pre & immediately post war and are no longer recognised on safety grounds (I think)

Night flights in wave would technically be possible but the prospect of a night field landing doesn't appeal and I've never heard of it being done.

It seems to be rare but not totally unknown. And that rule I posted was from the UK in the 70s

Quote
I flew a Bocian at night at Leszno Poland. The Poles are the only country i know that regularly fly gliders at night. They use to insit on a parachute jump from a glider too!

The only recent night flight in a glider in the UK was done in the late 70s by Humty Dumty (Humphry Dimock) at Cranfield. He fitted a single Red light to his glider, just to make a point it could be done.

Quote
I know that Poland used to have a night glider rating, and some UK pilots did aerotow night checks.

Lights on the tug aircraft, low level cockpit instrment lights and normal runway lighting.

There is apparently to be an EASA Glider night rating, and I suppose the same training would apply?

When duration records existed, beacon lights were put on ridges and ridge soaring was used; duration records were discontinued after they reached several days, and pilots fell asleep killing themselves in the subsequent crash.

While wave lift certainly exists during night hours I am not aware of any intentional night wave flights (although a number of landings have taken place after sunset, it is easy to be deceived by the sun being well above the horizon at 20,000ft when it's sunset on the ground, and it takes a finite time to descend - too fast and it's easy to get an iced up canopy. Car headlights can make a very good makeshift 'flarepath'.)

There also seems to be some leeway for LSA/gliders like the one in the video, allowing them to fly at "night"

Any pilots want to interject?

OK, since we were at an impasse as to whether Gliders flew at night, I took the question to Avsim and started a thread. The conclusion, after a bit of back and forth is that there appear to be no regulations prohibiting night flying, just a bit of paperwork that needs to be filled out.

Your biggest obstacle will probably be your insurance company!

Its strongly suggested you equip your glider with lights if you do so, with the suggestion being that the lights be patterned on that of a regular private plane, though as posted above, a single red light is also acceptable.

Here is the Avsim thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/465442-so-can-i-fly-a-glider-at-night/

Well, we already know M7 is crazy and likes to glide near mountains...... why not at night? I see that sometimes when doing this, people placed lights on nearby ridges/mountaintops as low-rent nav-markers.....

This also could be one of these youtube bots that looks for popular keywords, copy related videos into a single channel to cash on views (youtube search parameters will put channels with most popular content first, not the original one) and generate cash with it.

It doesn't seems so in this case, but it's starting to be a problem on youtube.

Folder idea to outstanding issues.
if we want to add sites to the planet, it is then necessary to improve the tool and asphalt road. two separate segments when we unite, we find difficulty level, strange, and very tedious, so it would be a good idea to join the segmetos default automatically without uneven contact. unless we want something else.

Nice scenery here  :D

Here is a quick How to for roads merging:

https://youtu.be/UGprKYJzmRM

It is not really suited for large areas but if you want roads to look good at a specific location, you can use this.

- Parallel road must have a lead-out last section.
- Make sure to move a bit of the last visible section under the main road.
- Adjust slant to match the main road one.
- Then adjust road elevation to match the one of the main road.

But it's not particularly user friendly, not just because of the process, but because the last road you edit regenerates on top... (or was it bottom?) and if you situations where they're greatly over(/under)lapping... that's not good.

Eventually something better will come.

The Cessna is either generating way too much lift, too little drag, too much thrust, or something is seriously wrong!!! The C172 service ceiling is 13,500 ft (4,100 m) and Mt. Everest is 29,029 ft (8848 m)! :o Therefore, it is operating at nearly twice it's service ceiling... We should compare the original C172 FDM's ceiling to the bomber's new FDM. Mixture ratio will have a great effect on horse power vs. altitude, so that is another variable to consider.

Nice videos!

Uriah

Trust me, goats don't need any sort of weaponry to destroy absolutely everything. Put ten of these things in Central Park for one year and the place will look like a war zone. Some people complains about rats but they just can't imagine how much we are lucky in what type of pest we have to deal with.
Why do you think they showcase goats in the TitanIM and not some kind of shady local fighter?

Because they know the true nature of danger.

Actually, I think its a fair video. For instance, I've seen a few with vehicles in Outerra climbing rocks and hills realistically that show what Outerra can do. But there are things its not good at yet, and its good to also show problems/glitches as well, so that they can be noted and addressed.

I don't see this much differently than a video of giants knocking you into orbit in Skyrim.  =D

Forum thread for the AH-64 update, this scenery is a part of the project. (http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=3253.0)

A morning flight in the Basler (Levi!), between the two civilian airports added around the JBLM scenery.

Quote from: Uriah
"In today's news, a US Forest Service aircraft has crashed into the ocean near Tacoma Washington. Analysis of the Flight Data Recorder indicates the pilot fell asleep due to relaxing music. In other news, the FAA has issued a notice that pilots shall only be allowed to listen to rock and roll or electronic music."

We know an old problem that is still pending. It is what the boss called "Kraken"
You imagine that feeling is indescribable sailors for centuries on their trips to the New World, at that time there was much riffraff stalking steal, had privateers and pirates crossed all known seas looking for fortune. They had large ships such as the "Queen Anne's Revenge" said a ship was due to captain ... black beard.
Legend has it that a boatload of Ron spicy black from the Caribbean to Norway, was attacked at sea by a huge monster ... kraken. a kind of octopus / giant squid. nothing was left of that ship or cargo, except oak barrels with rum, which was rescued and handed over to the Queen of Norway. The rum was black and unknown taste .. Kraken was infected.
our rum is yellow but is equally affected by the kraken.
When we sail without this monster? :)

We take for colonized Belize  ::)

Belize City was founded in the mid-seventeenth century by pirates, privateers and slave traders. Previously, the area had been a small Maya town called Holzuz to which the Spaniards called Puerto Valiz.
but since the conquest was Spanish territory within the territory Guatemanteco, he never had major settlement.

Today it is an independent country whose capital is Belmopan, its currency is the dollar Baliceño, with a population of 331,000 inhabitants and although 60% speak Spanish one 37% Belizean Creole and only 3% speak English, the official language is English. that due to British colonization of the territory.
Belize was well known by the trade logwood (tree species) which is a great fixer dye to color the fabric, much sought after by the European wool industry, Spain granted license to occupy the area to the British settlers provided to cease piracy
A really beautiful country.

Physics objects are like spawned vehicles or craters, they disappear when you leave the game :)

where we can download this JBLM Mig 29?  And which scenary is this? its great.

This Mig version is still in Uriah's massive box of WIP projects, and should be released at some point in the upcoming month, he still need some time and functions to finish it. The scenery is JBLM (Washington state, near Tacoma), and will be released at the same time :)

Sweet! .. Glad to see it getting a workout... I may be able to smooth out the lag a bit more but 500ms is generally considered unplayable on most MP platforms.

So quick question...what's more disruptive than a dead PC power supply?....A newborn baby!
And on that note...a quick shoutout to andfly...love the school of fishes but I have to say, I REALLY appreciate the music...it seems it has a calming affect on the new baby and 5 minutes of calm is absolutely priceless :)

Back to business.... I've setup a multiplayer host on a server in Europe. if you change the IP in the siliconsky_plugin.cfg to 5.175.24.184  that should connect you to the European server. Maybe help with lag.

Ah! ah!
If I can not contribute with sophisticated algorithms in C ++ ...
At least I contribute with a pleasant "Lullaby"!
It is not much ... but it's better than nothing!

After ending (for the moment) the work on the "beasts" (birds, fish etc ..) I had promised myself to dedicate my free time to look into your beautiful work.
Today I saw the video of Acetone ...
I correct myself :
Today I ENJOYED the splendid Acetone movie and I immediately placed your plugin (which I had already downloaded as soon as you had published) to prove it.
METARs problems (I think), I was not allowed the test, but I think that will solve it ...
In the meantime, I have dedicated myself to the study of the script ...

First observation: Congratulations !!!
A very extensive work and accurate !!!   I already have a lot of questions ...

Only a little time to study further (so you do not trivial questions) and surely present myself on the post where you published the plugin with questions about unresolved issues ...

Your work interests me very much and I think it will be able to give a "turning point" to focus users' interests for Outerra!

P.S. Best wishes for the baby !!!

Wow. This one is so smooth, thos changes made a big change.
By the way. In the videos i saw wider view of the cockpit. In the past was posible make this increasing the Fov angle.
But now if i increase fog angle the cockpit view is always the same.
I liked to fly with this wide coclpit. How i can do it again?

There are two zoom-in/zoom-out keys in the aircraft controls (I think ?) to increase and decrease FOV in aircraft, overriding the default one (but this needs to be set in the aircraft .js, so i's only working in the Mig and the Cessna).

I think nothing happens since server just tracks position of player's vehicle and nothing else. On one of Acetone's videos they just went through each other in this situation. Langdon might tell you whether this could be implemented though.
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: Acetone on August 20, 2016, 04:22:18 am
Yep. The point of these tests is to help Langdon in the difficult quest of the lag-less multiplayer, big improvements already but he's still on it :)
Collisions are not active, what's shared is position data and some systems position (lights, control surfaces, gear,...).

someone in the group know if you plan to do some script or maybe a plugin (like "simpleradio" example of DCS https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadio/releases (https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadio/releases)) for communication when they fly in multiplayer.

one grna multiplayer work,, but very gently missing, things look better.

The truth is that I do not know how it was since more than 1080 or 720 I can not see it by the Mb capacity of the internet. I imagine that it will be necessary to obtain more smoothness

Interesting that since the launch of 4K streaming the other day on Youtube for The Game Awards, I'm now able to stream 4K on my hardware and internet connection (with only little issues, at least in that live stream).  I wasn't quite able to before, at least bandwidth-wise I think.

But... if you didn't record in it 4K, there isn't much point.  Except that, for a year or 2 now, Youtube's new/current codec overcompresses 1080 and 720 so they really look like crap, especially at 60fps.  The sad main benefit of upscaling to over 1080p is that Youtube gives you a (seemingly) reasonable bitrate or compression again....  Damnit, Youtube.

That was immediately apparent between The Game Awards the other day and PSX today.  PSX's 1080 stream looked like complete crap and blocky as hell (and I'm still on a sub-1080 resolution...)  Not a fan of Youtube making their codec worse for resolutions that most people are still at....

Except for the American Civil War, where 620000 men died or the WW1, where the number was 116516 dead, ( ww2 405399) in the rest of the conflicts where the American army intervened the numbers of dead in combat were:
Korea: 36574
Vietnam: 58220
Operation Urgen Fury (invasion of Granada): 0
Operation Fair Cause (Panama Invasion): 0
Operation Desert Storm (freeing Kuwait): 148
Battle of Mogadishu: 18
Operation Iraqi Freedom (Invasion Iraq): 4422
Operation new Dawn (Iraqi territory after war): 66
Operation Enduring Freedom (fight against terrorist, Afghanistan, horn of africa, etc.): 2318
Accidents of traffic fatalities USA 2015: 41059
You read well, 41059 people died in accidents according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
In addition to the deaths, more than 2.2 million people were seriously injured in vehicle accidents in the first half of 2015, and the resulting costs have risen 24% compared to 2014, totaling $ 152 billion in the first six months.

It's a problem of SRTM elevation dataset which is extremely buggy in NZ. We are working on correcting the errors using an automated process.

For example, here's how the area looks like after correction using another less detailed but more reliable dataset, but with roads and runway still in the old buggy position (needs reimporting the roads).

Wow ! can we download your model somewhere ? I have made a bike (https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ef039kve7tsfuc/bike1.otx?dl=0) but I got some problem with the steering wheel. In the blender model I set the origin of the frontwheel on its axis center. For the inclined (20 degrees) steering wheel axle I also set its origin at the same point on the front wheel center. I can get the steering axis rortate correctly on its inclide axis, but the frontwheel seems to "steer"by default around the z axis. How did you manage to get your frontwheel steer correctly together with the inclided steering fork ?

Popping up ! yes you're right. For the moment  I let it pop up on purpose to see that they are automatically generated when the camera moves. Creation range can be adjusted. I think for the video I used 1.5 km. Would be sufficient for smaller buildings and other small object. I fully agree that for skyscrapers creation range should be much wider, but this is just an experiment. I need to figure out the right "Mix" of buildings, and introduce a better distribution (not uniformly random) maybe related to location on the map. (close to city center there are higher buildings and farther away smaller ones and industrial buildings) ...but everything is at an very basic experimenting level..no serious intention to make a mod behind it for now, untill I get some nice and especially useable results.  My biggest problem at the moment is to avoid that objects get placed inevitably also on roads. If this were not the case then it would be possible to get already a city where you can drive through. For the moment however I don't know how to tell the script where roads are  :'(.

interesting. I was wondering if you can do the opposite, that is, using the snow to get movements inside the road alone ... can you drive with a car autonomously on the tracks with your idea or experiment?
Are bells heard? Are they still in Trent?
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: fly77 on December 01, 2019, 05:38:23 am
Autonomous driving on road when there is snow ? Should be possible. In this regard I'd want to ask you if you have the same problem as me..whenever there is snow vehicles sink and get stuck in snow. I allways had this problem even with all previous outerra versions. Seems like snow behaves as mud..but it looks exagerated as the thickness of snow is not visible....if it sinks in snow at least the snow layer should be visibly thick... and the thicker the more you get stuck...also it makes driving in winter very dangerous, near to impossible unless you're very carful not to get any wheels off from the road.....not normal ... is it the same for you ?

Bells...well I could make them part of outerra sounds ..just need to decide where and when will the bells ring. Same goes of other sounds

I see you have the same problem  =|  Meanwhile I solved the problem with a "snow-turbo" mod adding to the buggy JS an extra-force depending on snowdepth and engine rpm. Works also for mud. Maybe I should also adjust the suspensions..wheels seem a little too deep in snow. Anyway with this self-driving cars in winter will probably be possible.

Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: fly77 on December 09, 2019, 12:27:05 am
Yes. Each one attracting all others...thats the magic that got possible by using global variables..so that each one knows where all companions are and so can attract them and in turn is attracted by each one with a specific law of force versus distance...real  magnetic or electrostatic physics becomes possible! opens quite some useful possibilities .  Magnets for instance can be used for lots of things :)

Preview of auto-generated random airport sounds near all italian airports in outerra.(WIP) Together with the sound of some spawned airplanes it gives a more enjoyable experience of visiting outerra airports.
Also other new global ambient-sounds (such as seagulls, new wave and windsounds, city-sounds) etc.. are work in progess.
So any talented scenery builder is invited to contribute some great airports to combine with the new sounds  ;)

following the idea of Fly77
we recreate two points A and B (airport Fiames - airport Rivolto)
We will follow a route with a spectacular landscape, about 30 minutes approx. 160 km away. it will be a pleasant trip
it will be a VFR flight with sunny day

I am trying to make it possible to spawn more than one AI vehicle. How many ? I don't know yet. Of course aim would be to simulate traffic..at least locally around a given position. In both directions ? Yes ,but clearly this needs the AI driver  to first get their driving licence 😁

I think we should remember that there's some anomalies in the roads at times (even not at intersections) that we can't see, like at times when your [whoever's driving] vehicle seems to sink into the ground for a moment.

Not necessarily in this video, but possible unseen causes for problems when testing AI.

..space junk ! right ! outerra has it all !
Linking to the ISS-tracker...I guess yes...if the physics in outerra is accurate enough maybe its even sufficient to launch it into orbit in syncronized way and it will follow the same trajectory /same location as the real one , at each given moment without even needing constant syncronization with the web ISS-tracker....except maybe occasionally for applying some small orbital corrections (kind of autopilot) to keep it on track

Not yet..but since I think it possible to deform the terrain in realtime via the excavator model script ( somewhere there was a "level terrain under object" command  if I remember well.....yep
///Level terrain under object
//@param ext extra space from the floor rectangle [m]
    //@param border border width [m]
//@param transition width of transitional area to the surrounding terrain [m]
//@param type surface type, temporary: 0 original, 1 gravel, 5|9 road, 7 dirt, 10|11 concrete
//@return true if successfull, false if terrain map not available
    bool level_terrain( float ext, float border, float transition, int type );
)

it should be possible to do something....here rapid a mock-up of what it probably could look like

otherwise ...

yep...use explosive excavator using the "create crater" command!

...oh well.. probably much easier to "spawn" a 3D model of a sandpile...and as more sand accumulates substitute with bigger and bigger sandpile models.

I'm glad you enjoyed the virtual trip. "Will this be part of outerra in the future?" I don't know the developer's intentions but I know that we can ourselfs place rails, bridges, create train mods, railway stations etc..even tunnels can already be placed manually in the scenery editor...so we can create our "tiny railroad system" wherever we like in the world and share them among us to connect each others railway systems together. Also I will myself try to figure out how to import some raildata from OSM or other open data sources or build myself a "railroad-track laying robot" :D

Post by: fly77 on August 20, 2020, 01:43:47 pm
Thanks aWac9. Once my train mod is complete and working reliably and I will have published it I am sure you'll want to build your own personal railroad system connecting your airports to the nearest cities.  ;)

I imagine that inserting train tracks is very similar to inserting roads .. and the slopes will be the same flat, upper (bridge) or lower (tunnel)

hmm for now its just like placing each rail like you place a house and level terrain under the rail...you can also set the rail pitch in the editor ..as well as heading precisely ...needed to make curves and to lay rails uphill or downhill....but I think in the future we may have a "rail-tool"  working in a similar way to the "road-tool" ...at least this is what I hope...meanwhile I'll try to figure out if I can create a "railway laying robot"  ^-^

Thanks! Its a bamboo shark. I just took since it was a free model. I scaled it too much ...normally bamboo shark seem to be small fish. Also I converted the video with the wrong screensize so the fish looks fatter than he really is. ...kind of prehistoric fish.  ..this is just the start. All life on earth started in the sea....and so will life in outerra ! :)

fly....what is the reference or calculation of the impact of the bomb on the mig ... that is, when I press F, where I suppose the bomb will fall, because it will be a function of the wind and the height ... how is it calculated?
can I change the F key for the joystick trigger?
Title: Re: Outerra videos thread
Post by: fly77 on October 12, 2020, 06:16:32 pm
You can change the F key in the outerra controls menu...see the mig release post to identify which entry to change..i think its car/turbo but better check on my mig release page. The bomb in principle should drop under the plane but I added also some winddrag so it will drop behind and eventually laterally. Better set wind to zero in outerra since that drag calculation is very bad. Also there is still some problem with the bomb release mechanism...this needs improvement...so for now its hard to hit any targets with the bomb. Of course you need to know also when to drop the bomb. These are calculations that the bomber crew needs to do...so you ! Better use the missiles. Next version will be improved.

The only way to know is stepping aside for some time and let others step forward.

Vehicle created from scratch using Blender. Had some issues with the door panels but with different shadings and color adjustment of the video, you should not be able to see the imperfections haha.
