Title: Mars HiRISE data with outerra

Hi there,

i know this may seem a little far fetched. but have you ever considered rendering terrain elevation data from mars in outerra? it would be like awesome to see mars with overwhelming vegetation (well, at least trees and grass that is...) and real oceans, wouldn't it? and it would sure get you some pr in the gawker network of sites

I was eyeing Mars data already, definitely want to get it into OT. Last time I checked the data were in some other projection (the poles) so we need to add support for it in our terrain tool first, otherwise I would have imported the heights already.

The next thing will be to create a matching material set for Mars then.

hm. what is a projection?
just kidding i know what that is. so is there any other source than nasa, to get hands on images and data from other celestial bodies?

edit: I'm not sure if this help, but you can select the projection (cylindrical center0, cc180, north- and south polar) here. although resolution seems to be somewhat restricted in the map viewer.

I hope you are ready to hold FORWARD for about 80 strait hours because at 200KM/s (current speed cap) that is how long it will take to get to mars when it is at it's closest on Jul. 27. 2018 – 57.6 million km (35.8 million miles)

80 hours huh? well thats still roughly 54 times better than NASA does currently. with the persprective on finding vast landscapes and chilling shorelines instead of a miserably cold and toxic desert? yeah i think i'll take the shot!
