Title: Watercrafts (VTA Design)...
Post by: Bartolomeus on December 18, 2012, 08:34:28 am
Hi

I know the progress of the water environment is still in a early stage. But I'm looking forward to the progress of the water environment.

Here is the S-72 Puma a german Navy Fast Attack Craft.

We need to add more detail into the waves, some smaller ones. As soon as there's an object in the water with which the waves can be compared, it becomes obvious that the waves aren't fine enough ...
Title: Re: Watercrafts...
Post by: Bartolomeus on December 18, 2012, 03:19:12 pm
Hi Cameni. Yes, especially with smaller boats the waves looks pixelated.

It would be nice to have the opportunity, to set the wave height. And it would be nice, to have (later) a wind-dependent wave height as well for lower depths.

Model looks brilliant, however I would dirty up the textures slightly for added realism. Shame that the water doesn't look so good (repeating tiles, too transparent). Not sure if cameni and co are doing some more work on this at the moment or not. I saw somethign about improving the colour, but it would be great to see a better wave engine

Thank you Ozybolairy and Revolver. :)

@Ozybolairy, yes the textures have to look more weathered. And the model needs the bump and spec maps for more realistic look.

Can you actually move it around in the water, or is that not possible atm?

Hi Atrax

and thank you! ;)

No, unfortunately they are currently only static models. Once ships are officially supported, I'll make the ships driveable.

Cool, that will be awesome right? :D I'd like that submarine you made (at least I thinkit was you, if not I apologize to the creator), when it's controllable. Keep up the good work! ;)

Hi Marko,

nice to see some of your ships in this nice game-engine.  It would be very nice if the development of the maritime sector goes ahead. I think that outerra  offers very good prerequisites for a good ship simulator.   I would like to test the scenery creation tool for creating maritime environments. I think that could bring very good results.

Damnit.. That music makes everything better. The funny thing is you could have easily had it pull back and BAM.. The Enterprise.

That sub will be awesome when it is moving and  bobbing and leaving a massive wake.

The plan is to animate every VLS door and to control the opening and closing of the doors via a animation panel. The same for the muzzle doors and the sail hatches. ;)

Thank you Ange for your words! :)

Hi Pyton, yes that's my goal. ;) I think OT is the perfect basis for such a kind of simulation.

It would be nice to make a Cold War / Modern Subsim with controllable US and Russian Subs. With both Diesel and Nuclear submarines.
And the ability to walk inside the subs and to leave the subs if you are in a harbor.

Have you painted him after photos?

If it is in rivers, the camo may have some function, doe true, in coastal environment it may be better off in normal navy paint. Maybe its a demonstrator piece paint ? There was a lot of that when stealth hit the sea waters ...

Like the Swedish counterpart too ...

Or chinese types ...

P.S.: Great work Marco! Makes me dream you would make an Zubr-class hovercraft.

Thank you all for the comments! :)

@Stefan.. Yes it's the original paint scheme of the Skjold class. As Pago says, it's perfect for coastal water environments.

@Pago... Nice idea, I will put it on my list. :)

Back at 3d work. Here is the next boat the german Fast Attack Craft S-72 Puma. The exterior model is nearly finished (~90%).

Oh man, you made it so fast after the norweger and already textured it ... im a lame i see.  :o Makes me want to see admiral Kuznetcov in adition to Zubr now. :D :D :D

Have to say, it is a little weird to have anti-boat rocket (or torpedo ?) launchers facing sideways, makes the attack profile large when engaging. You do still plan to model some internals (at least the deck), right ?

Thank you John and Pago! Yes, it's one of my best models. I served nearly 6 years of boats of this class. ;)

Hi Pago, the containers are the Exocet Anti Ship Missiles. And of course I will make the bridge interior and the engineering control center. For a later version I will make the complete interior of this class. :)

Thank you Pago. I served 12 years in the German Navy. It was a great experience. ;) That's the reason why I especially like to build ships and subs.

Added some details to the model and more texture work is done. Picture rendered in Deep Exploration with Raytracing.
