Title: TrackIR work around - maybe???
Post by: Darren on June 19, 2013, 05:12:16 pm
Hello,

TrackIR can/may work in app with the TrackIR->TIRMouse.exe.

BUT:

"direct input for mouse control" needs to be active.

http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=36931 (http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=36931)

From TrackIR help:

4.3.2 Mouse Emulation
Mouse emulation mode is used when there is no direct TrackIR support for the game you would like to play. You can attempt to configure the game as long as it has a mouse look option. For more details and information on mouse emulation please see section 5.6 in the manual.

Can this lead to a solution? to get TrackIR and Outerra together?

Regards,

Darren

Alternatively:

Hi Darren,

We would be totally happy to support them with our SDK.  I'll be in touch with them shortly.

Comments/Questions :

I am writing to make a request, or plea (almost bordering on begging).

Please support Outerra, and allow them use of the TrackIR license etc.

Outerra already supports Oculus Rift, who are soon to be a threat to TrackIR.

I am only a customer of both TrackIR and Outerra, who would love to see this marriage between the two.

See for yourself.

We must sign a NDA, but it seems to be modified and softened from what I saw earlier.

I hope I can soon stand on a mountain and look around (with my TrackIR), scanning the horizon. Or jet through the mountainous gullies, with quick glances to the left, to the right.

 :)

Can you tell me what format you need the graphical objects to be? What code is the application made with?

ps:

Is great so far, that I can use my Hotas Cougas, and Saitex peddals.....at same time!

But I would really love a "Cave man simulator".

please see: Outerra > Anteworld - Outerra Game > Game & gameplay discussion > Cave man simulator

but why not freetrack interface? no NDA needed there.  :-\

Freetrack (or facetracknoir) will be supported as well, likely earlier than this. I've recently got my IR cap finished too.

Of the cap? I need to put an Outerra logo there first :)

Great to hear that there is still some movement regarding the track IR topic.

i think more people own a TrackIR than a 'Rift' at this stage :))

But would be nice if you could use the roll axes from the Rift and the lean axes from TrackIR.

Rx,y,z = Rift
Tx,y,z = TrackIR

:)

If it could help TrackIR owners:

One guy found a solution in order to make trackir working when there is no direct input datas.
I'm not an expert but it should be a free solution (open source).
I tested it under anteworld and it's working perfectly for left/right moves.
This is adding a lot of immersion inside cockpits :)

Here is the original post where you will find the detail: http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=55803#Post55803 (http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=55803#Post55803)

As resume:

- download profile (*.py file) that come from the above post
- download/install freepie (google it)
- open trackir, select profile "one"
- open freepie, go to settings, plugins, trackir (i let unticked "enable loggin")
- in freepie go to file, open and select the *.py file
- run the script by selecting "script", "run script"

Now if you press pageup key you should see the mouse following your head movements.
After that you can start anteworld and enjoy immersion after having adapted the sensibility according your preferences  ;)

Any news on trackir support?

New lurker here.  What Darren says above is a profound understatement.  I am very confused that there is OR support for outerra but not trackir.

The problem with TrackIR is you have to buy the license from that company to support their hardware. SO... Since OT isn't really a game and the income is minimal.. supporting Free-Track, Face-Track and every other tracking format for free seems like the way to go. Until OT is ready to go live for the world and start pulling it's weight.

No it's not about having to buy the license. You just need to sign an NDA. Previous version of the NDA contained some clauses that we didn't agree with. Current one has these clauses removed, but I've read that they were just moved down into the license agreement.

We generally don't sign unnecessary and potentially risky NDAs, and thus support for TrackIR will probably only come as a third-party input plugin. Sorry but there's enough problems with the patent and legal system as it is ...

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. ;D

I'll consider supporting outerra with my money when there is trackir support (or at least *planned* support?).  Until then, cheers!

For those interested, latest released version (0.7.17.3961) supports tracker plugins and there's an experimental trackir plugin here: http://outerraworld.com/appdata/Anteworld/tir-trackir-plugin.dll (http://outerraworld.com/appdata/Anteworld/tir-trackir-plugin.dll)

Should go into the installation directory (where outerra.exe is) into the plugins subfolder - you'll probably have to create it.

I'm getting crashes just after launch, is there any other setting i should select for this? (I'm using trackir4 camera, with trackir5 software) Is the trackir software supposed to be running?

Thanks, earned by means of newer the file, but TrackIR  moves not in a cabin and round the vehicle. Such impression that there is not a movement by the head and camera movement. http://webfile.ru/1ddcc82d208a02d505a3c49f17c1e944 (http://webfile.ru/1ddcc82d208a02d505a3c49f17c1e944)
I am sorry for possible not clear places in the text, I transport by means of the electronic translator.

I understand you well enough, no worries.

This is all I can do, by means of TrackIR plugin, the rest is cameni's work.

Thanks for that already is.
I will hope for further improvement of work of the program and a plug-in.

You can reduce or disable translation (positional movement) completely if you want. Just make the curve low, so it doesn't go outta the canopy.

I have a problem. TrackIR head movement moves in the opposite direction even when using "invert" option in the software. Any ideas?

This did work like a charm for me with the latest version of OT (4459) and with the TrackIR 5.2 software!
I used the TrackIR profile from Kelvinr. His Thread can be found here: http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2476.0 (http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2476.0)
