Title: Watercraft support
Post by: cameni on September 16, 2013, 12:03:32 pm
Basic support for watercraft is coming into the next update, here's a preview video:

Boats and Ships in Outerra (alpha) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxVUC65uBmw#)

Boats and ships (and submarines) are handled as normal vehicles, with a few extra parameters that define hydrostatic and dynamic forces. It's also possible to easily define amphibious vehicles.

Yes...you guys are awesome! Can't wait to put my watercrafts into OT! The water physics looks good so far! Really nice work Cameni!

How is the depth of the craft being calculated ? Is there some weight and underdeck volume function ? ... or just a depth-constant ?
And how about influences of really long ships as an tanker ? They are slightly "slower" to react to the surface-wather doe to theyr mass ...

Very nice!

It's also possible to easily define amphibious vehicles.

We can't make aircrafts float yet, only vehicles now? Would be nice to make Shavrov-2 float.

I didn't even think about that.. The first water landing. It is going to be a DISASTER!

There's an approximate volume-defining shape that's configured in the chassis parameters, will add docs to the wiki. Slower to react - that's automatic because of inertia, but there are also extra dampening coefficients for each direction + angular dampening.

Not yet, until Angrypig figures out how to do it in JSBSim ...

I noticed, and we probably don't have them yet because they're probably a bit buggy still. I may of read Cameni say it was glitched or needed work, and that's the only reason I could think of why they wouldn't give us the clouds yet.
