Hi all,
It's been a while...
Anyway, I thought that seeing as some people are interested in a different look for Outerra landscape I would upload a texture set that I created to try to match my home in New Zealand. This is the set that I use by default and so I have decided to allow others to enjoy it as I do.
These are all the replacement textures I will share as I have mentioned previously that all my 200+ textures are for Brano to use at his discretion inside Outerra for the Biome system once ready.
For those of you who don't know I have spent many (hundreds) of hours trying to bring the Outerra landscape to life by working on certain base ground textures (including grass, dirt, gravel, sand and rocks) for different Biomes and regions. I am not an official developer or Outerra Team member just a willing fan that has taken it upon himself to help speed up the Biome side of development in terms of textures.
So enjoy this set.

Great, thanks Kelvin!

One more great work, Kelvinr. Thank you! :)
-
Thanks so much :)
Where do we install the NZ folder too?
-
Oh, sorry, I often overestimate how much people know. These textures will just go into the Outerra\textures\terrain folder. Backup your original ones and then overwrite with these.

Awesome, thanks again!!
By the way, It never asked me to overwrite much - the folder was pretty much empty.

I'll be more specific;
The replacement textures 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 08, and 12(.dds) should go in ..\textures\terrain\ground
The replacement textures foam, foam00, and foam01 should go in ..\textures\terrain
So for you, delete the "Waves" folder it is only a reference folder, leave the foam files where they are and move files 00, 01, etc... into the ground folder and you'll be done. If you learn the folders/folder structure you will see you are purely overwriting files.
Good luck :)

Thanks!! Do I also put 13n.dds and the other 13 file in \textures\terrain\ground too?

Yes, that one too.

Hi,
Thank you for great texture mod of yours.
I downloaded and copy & pasted the files exactly as you told to do.
And I opened the 'locations' on the menu bar in the Outerra but couldn't find N.Z inside the saved locations box except the regular saved files(Airport2, Lower Himalayas, default, etc).
Is there any way to load your files?
Thanks advance.

shouldn't outerra apply the "nz textures" everywhere or did something change since the last time ?

The textures apply everywhere but I guess I could post a save location file for NZ otherwise in the meantime you'll have to slew there.

Even though the textures are global, for those who don't want to try to make the journey to NZ via the UFO mode then feel free to use the below camera position files to teleport you there. NZ is the best place ever! ;D

Copy these files directly into Outerra\campos\earth directory (the main install directory). Run the Anteworld demo and then you can load the position. There are 3 locations in New Zealand to choose from 2 in the South island and 1 in the North island near Auckland International Airport.
Enjoy New Zealand

Thanks again for your mods and reply.

Hey,
Yes these textures will work. Are you looking for a video card? I have one which is surplus to requirements and is in Excellent condition, I upgraded mine to the latest. Let me know if this is what you mean. Btw, where are you from in NZ?
-

my video card is ok for the time being gtx 560 and intel i7 2600 , windows 7

wish we could set location specific textures, so whole earth doesn't look same. :\
Good work tho.

So.... You did a bunch of work, and your YouTube videos showing your textures are great. But has any of this ever been used yet? is there any indication it ever will be used?

It will be used (actually the existing textures in OT are Kelvin's work), but exactly how depends on the evolution of terrain texturing system. Currently the colors are determined by biomes & color map, and ground textures are now encoded as differential YUV textures, as you can see for yourself in textures/terrain/ground/##y.dds files. That's because they have to work in procedural colorizer that combines land colors with detail textures. Therefore Kelvin's textures no longer work directly and have to be preprocessed using a special filter.
Once the underlying system is stable, it will be possible to use custom texture sets and have modifications local.

Cool! I had mentioned the grass colors in another thread, and the latest release showed a lot of improvement.
