Title: Import all main roads available?

Hello, does anyone know a tool to import all roads from an country from OSM (openstreetmap?)

It would be cool if someone make a tool that import every road available on OSM.
All roads on planet are available in this file:
http://planet.openstreetmap.org/planet/planet-latest.osm.bz2 (http://planet.openstreetmap.org/planet/planet-latest.osm.bz2)
its 30.3gb

I think such a tool is on the never ending to-do list for OT.

Edit: It seems Cameni and Angrypig are planning on even going further than just importing roads from OSM.
i remember talk about importing height data for certain buildings too.
