Title: Working on Sand dunes.
Post by: CaptJack92a on February 08, 2014, 04:23:19 pm
When physics of objects comes into play, this will be useful. Of course, I would like a Sahara biome type in the future, but for now these work.

Of course, it pales in comparison at the moment. I'll keep working.

Hey that looks great. Is that actual terrain ya can drive vehicles on like say a buggy? Or is it a static object? It actually casts a shadow so I'm guessing a static object.

I really like the texture. Lets just hope when it comes to thing like sand and dirt OT will allow them to be deformed by tyres so we can leave how tread marks all over the world :)

The top image is mine, the second is the real sahara. Just making sure that's clear before we continue.

It's a static object, so we'll have to wait until physics work to drive about.

Oh wait, that bottom pictures real? lol I think the lack of clouds caught me out there. Everytime I walk outside and its a clear day I think im stuck in outerra :)

Your model still looks great though. Sand dunes would really make the beaches and deserts that much more exciting.

You have generated models for dunes? Does the current biome not support the desert of sahara? Or is it too flat?

It's rocky. There's not a biome for smooth granulated looking sand.

But the color should be the color of the sahara, right?

Yes. What I love about the Sahara so much is that it's a really pretty orange yellow in the day time, and an almost shiny vibrant orange at sunset, then a blue at night. It's incredible.

It's also one of the reasons I love journey so much. They capture this so well.

The Outerra image is off because terrain self-shadowing isn't enabled.
