Hey guys.
Just wondering is this engine ever going to be optimized for game development. I would love to experiment making some earthly sized games on this engine. Will this ever come true?
-
An SDK will be definately made, but only when the developers think that this engine has grown enough.
Corrently there are soo many things to be added. Remember, it is still early for that.

True I am learning to code because I want to develop high tech games on this engine. I have a few ideas in mind but for now I aim on using Cryengine to practise and perfect the code for my games. So will I expect a user friendly multi functional interface for the SDK or will the user have to have in depth coding knowledge in c++

obviously theres no ETA for the final release but is there one for when the engine goes into beta?

What would be the difference? "Beta" is just a name!

Obviously the devs need to have a point where they transition from the alpha to beta testing phase.

Those names have widely accepted definitions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle)

From the same article:
Beta, named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet, is the software development phase following alpha. It generally begins when the software is feature complete. <---- MANY features to be added to Outerra, so...no beta soon.

Perhaps then the devs could put together a forum post with planned features and what has already been implemented? Something like this...
http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Planned_features (http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Planned_features)
it would allow people to have a better idea at what the devs are planning to implement both near and long term and what will definitely not be added.

I only ask this question because I am looking forward to working with this engine. I have a huge project planned and I have already begun it's alpha production phase. I will most likely post pictures and info on its progress as time goes on.

Unfortunately, the progress on the engine has been slow lately. I guess it has to do with all these problems and bad graphic drivers that appear lately.....

... just remember folks, if it doesn't need to go trough all the Greek alphabet names/stages .. it will be one day. :D ... But im sure something huge will come after such calming ... something cloudy, maybe even sparkly and rainy ...

Update - Outerra Omega Demo released! -_-

Would it not be more progressive for them to ask for contributors?

They are the only minds in the world that can code this stuff!
No, just kidding. I believe the team will eventually grow, but not until its time.....

Yeah I just taught if the made it a more open project people could help out. But I'm guessing they would be concerned about money in that case. I hate how progress is always held back by money.
