What is the best format for making textures for a flyable aircraft
that i made thanks to the helpful input of forums members.

Just look trough the wiki here ... http://xtrac.outerraworld.com/trac.fcgi/wiki/material (http://xtrac.outerraworld.com/trac.fcgi/wiki/material)

... if you use Gimp, there needs to be an plug-in installed for the DDS export - http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/ (http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/)

When you make the texture - export it as DDS, choose DXT1 (when an export window comes up) and copy it then to the folder, where your model (UV-unwrapped and textured) was imported by OT. Then you probably need to check the .mtl file, to give the texture to the material. (OT sometimes dont write it up there during import).
