Title: what to use to read files

what program is good for making changes to pkg files such as material to add lines of information

You dont have to add "lines of information". Just open the .mtl file with a texteditor. I'm using notepad++ and its fine for that. The .pkg just have to be edited if you want to change the object type. Like switching the object to a boat or static object.
