Title: Dual cards?
Post by: HiFlyer on June 08, 2014, 12:17:30 pm
Not sure if its been asked before, but does Outerra support multiple graphics cards? And if not, are there any plans to do so?

Unless you mean SLI/CrossFire (http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2566.0), which is a different way of utilizing multiple GPUs that is outside of our (application) control, there are concrete plans to support multiple separately addressed GPUs for things like simulator domes. That will allow domes to be handled by a single machine with 2-3 GPUs, each driving several displays/projectors.

Yes I meant SLI, there are some games out there that still kind of ignore the second card/get no benefit from it or just have horrible scaling.

SLI and CrossFire are handled by the drivers, so you need to have a profile created by the vendor for your application. Else you are out of luck and people can only hack it (by renaming the exe to another game with support), but that's likely to be buggy.

That basically means that there won't be official SLI/CrossFire support until OT (or rather an OT game) becomes popular enough and it will be worth the effort for respective HW vendor.

Hmmmmmm.... Never knew that only the card maker would do it. Too bad.

Thanks for the reply.
