Title: [Released] Airbus A380-800 from Project Airbus
Post by: Levi on August 03, 2014, 09:06:58 am
Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A380): The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by Airbus. It is the world's largest passenger airliner, and many airports have upgraded facilities to accommodate it. It was initially named Airbus A3XX and designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market. The A380 made its first flight on 27 April 2005 and entered commercial service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines.

This is an unofficial conversion for the Airbus A380-800 from Project Airbus (http://www.pafs.wf/). The conversion is being done with Permission.

Yep, I can't wait for that to be implemented too.

Also, for this kind of planes, I really need key binding for speed brakes and reverse thrust...
Cameni or Angrypig, any idea when that will be implemented?

And... yes, I can't wait for the AO to be released. Everything will look better :) Also, real time reflections would have been improved the quality significantly, especially under the body. ;D

Really great!!! thanks for the hard work!!!!
Thanks!
More than hard, it was very time consuming, that's mainly because I had to extract the models (Exterior & VC) directly from the .MDL files, that causing lots of trouble with the meshes, 'smoothing groups', pivot points, etc... :D

Two solutions to this...

Either the Outerra development guys extend the keyboard functionality..
or use the brake command as also a speedbrake activation and use maybe the unused 'mixture' as a reverse thrust command.

personally I'd like an extended keyboard, because this is just going to keep coming up as we get better and need more functionality....

I'm not completely sure how to do that... Also, mixture is currently used to switch between different camera positions.

I totally agree with you.

I do hope there's no holding development back for keyboard extension for interactive mouse control as the 2 methods should co-exist together and are rather 'horses for courses' in their use.

The problem I find with interactive mouse control is that you're having to 'look' at the device and select it before controlling... this is fine in a non-stressfull environment but is simply not realistic in others.... for example.

when driving a car, you don't look down at the gear stick, your hand automatically goes to the stick whilst your focus remains on the road... The same is true about a four quadrant throttle for a plane.. or a bombaimer whist on run in.. he doesn't take his eye from the rectal his hand moves out to the right and by touch alone flicks the master arm switch.

I think this 'simple' keyboard approach to control has a place in simulation.

Agreed. Extended keyboard functionality together with interactive mouse control is definitely necessary, but we have to be patient :) :D

Oh I can be patient.... however I suspect that as there's a GUI front end to vehicle control, at the back end to this there's a definitions table... Now a simple xml method of keyboard definition for the 'extended' functions would work for me to develop additional JSBsim control functionality.

Aerodynamics isn't good. All the same thanks! I have to you a small inquiry if to you it isn't difficult. You can import A319? or something from the A32X series? Once again thanks!

I have experience in working on with scenarios for fsx. have work to do? maybe I can do something to help?

I know flight dynamics aren't so good, that's mainly because I have almost zero experience doing flight models. Maybe someone with better knowledge/experience can take the FDM and improve it? ;)

In the future, I'm planning to port the A318, A319, A320 and A321 from Project Airbus. That, if I get the permission to do so. But it won't be soon, as the process is very time consuming.

What could you do right now about scenarios, is making airports using roads with the help of Google Maps overlay, then sharing the cache folder so we can have them too. :) It would be very nice to have a big 'international' airport to land this beast on ;D

You can use google map or OSM as an overlay. Default keys are Ctrl+shift+G and Ctrl+Shift+M by default. This is useful mostly for hand placement of roads (F6).

Levi : I'm gonna try to do a basic version of a big airport. Seems like Ted Stevens (Alaska) have a correct flat surface in Outerra. So far, I've placed the runways only, correct lenght and width, and the alignment is... kind of accurate  ;D

There's no SDK at this moment. You can basically start reading the wiki (http://xtrac.outerraworld.com/trac.fcgi/wiki) and looking around the forums.

I was about to post this :D

I want to add that just in case you don't see it, there's a slider on the left bottom corner to set the opacity, and on the right top corner you can chose between map and satellite view. (this is for Google Maps overlay only)

Also, if you have trouble using the road tool, check it's help tab.

Major taxiways are finished, but it's a bit tricky to get something proper. There is no terrain flattening tool for the moment, so the surface is a bit bumpy. It's not a problem for runways wich are generated as one block, but for the taxiways wich are done with roads, the result... well, let's say it will not be FAA aproved  ;D

The small runway at the upper right is Lake Hood Strip.

180 meters of transitional area on every segment of the runway. Pretty much the only solution to avoid trees right next to it  :(

Talkeena airport, not so far away, have a nicer tree distribution and the result is way more natural. I also used a "blank" terrain material road around the runway to the transition less angular.

I will probably use the same solution for Ted Stevens airport.

Levi, it's at this point that you need to make a texture blank, that gets handed over to the guys on the texture forum.

I suggest always including a texture blank within the download within a docs folder.

I'm not a texture artist nor a re-painter. The liveries available are made by it's corresponding authors.

1 - Now, there are already two versions of British Airways livery made by Stephen Groom for this aircraft. I'll contact him. If I get green light to make them available here, I'll add them in the proper section.

2 - All links are working for me... which one isn't working for you?  :-\

I've already linked the Paint Kit for re-painters. That's more that a blank texture, it contains the original .PSD with parts sorted by layers, etc...

Thanks for the suggestion anyways, I appreciate it :)

Are you using a joystick or similar? If so, it may be that you have an axis assigned to a controller/joystick for throttle, then while using the keyboard, if the axis assigned for throttle on your joystick is at 50% or so, it may be causing that. Also try to to Reset calibration on your joystick from Controls menu >> Controllers tab.
If you're not using the joystick, then simply disconnect it.

Now, if you don't have any joystick, I have no idea where the problem could be. Maybe Cameni or Angrypig can answer that.

Did you tested another plane to see if this only happens with the A380? Because I didn't used any code to alter the Throttle input...

Probably, for some reason it wasn't correctly installed. When you're back at home, try to manually install it if you haven't already. You can open the file with almost any archive managers (WinRar, 7zip, etc...), then extract it in Outerra's main directory.

I didn't tried that. I know there's an Autopilot.xml file in \jsbsim\systems, but I'm not sure how to enable it, or if that even works. I should do a research and some tests...

What is really needed is either multi-player or the ability to "playback" a vehicle or the whole world. That way you can get cool shots of the landing gear coming off the ground or awesome fly-by's.

How to open otx file?
Something happened in your windows registry, and .otx files aren't recognized anymore being a file format used by Outerra. Maybe you moved the installation folder in another directory after the installation...

Just open the file with outerra.exe, and all should be fine.

Optionally, you can open .otx files with almost any archive managers (WinRar, 7zip, etc...), and manually extract the content inside your Outerra installation folder.

It's an .otx file (auto-installer for Outerra), all you need is to have Outerra installed, click on the file and select "yes"  :)

Hi all!

Can i start by saying that this aircraft is fantastic. I've spent a long time cruising around the mountains in this. Excellent fun!

I fly Outerra with the Oculus Rift DK1 at the moment and the a380 works really well but I have one problem. The location of the pilot viewpoint is too far backwards, when I turn sideways my virtual "head" goes through the headrest and because I'm sitting so far away from the windscreen the view forwards is somewhat limited.

Is there any way I can edit/change the viewpoint location in-game or via a config file somewhere? or is this something that you can change Levi?

Thanks
Ben

Thank you bendean!
Yes, you can change the camera position within the script. You can open and edit the script in-game with ALT+E, or editing the Airbus_A380-800.js file with any text editor you like(I recommend you Notepad++).
- Using in-game built-in script editor, press Reload to view/save the changes.
- If you edit the file instead, you can reload the script after saving the modified file, with ALT+R.

As you noticed, it's not necessary at all restarting the game to view the changes on the script.

Now, to modify the camera position(the one on the left side in the cockpit), go to line 817:
Code: [Select]
Line 816 //Cockpit left
Line 817 if(cam>0.0 && cam<0.5 || cam>6.5)this.set_fps_camera_pos({x:-0.56,y:32.9,z:1.75});

To move the camera forward, slightly increment the number on Y axis. This one: y:32.9

Btw, you can switch between different fps cameras using Mixture control.

Wow Levi, Thank you!

I moved the view forwards and upwards slightly and now it feels totally natural in the rift. A good friend of mine is an A321 pilot and he tried it out and was blown away by the feeling of "being there" in the rift  :D

My only other thing that I would like to change is the tinted windscreen. Looking from inside the cockpit everything is much darker than when viewed from outside the aircraft. Is there anything that can be done about this? Its rather a shame as it makes Outerra look a bit muted and dull when really its bright and beautiful.

Cheers

Glad you guys are enjoying this plane :)

Ah, the tinted windscreen... I basically made it darker because of the baked reflections from the cockpit. If it's brighter, those reflections won't be very visible anymore. But yeah, you can easily change that too. ;)

Go to the Livery folder inside Airbus_A380-800, and open the .mtl file for the livery you want to modify the windscreen's material properties.

e.g.: Anteworld\packages\Levi\Airbus_A380-800\liveries\house.mtl

Now you have the .mtl file opened, go to Line 230, and edit the last number, which is the opacity:

...
Line 229      "name" : "VC_A380_glass_t",
Line 230      "color" : "1.0,1.0,1.0,0.8",

...

It's set to 0.8, try something like 0.5 or 0.4, and the windscreen should be less tinted now.

*Editing the materials requires restarting the game.

As you can notice, that's livery dependent. So, you'll have to modify that for each livery you want to have less tinted windscreen...

Hope it helped. :)

I made this short video to remind Cameni not forget to fix the problems of "hops" or frames (fps) (Hz),,,,, is important that the image has continuity in the game and I have read that for some reason the problem was caused by the road .. it is certain that forgetfulness does not cause ..
Thank you.

Yeah, those spikes are why I thought it was roads causing the the performance problems... because all I've built are roads and it happens in certain locations around roads.  But I have a feeling you might not always be able to see the spikes and yet still have the performance issues because they are there somewhere... just not visible.  But I really wouldn't know...  :-X

Add these Opacity maps to: Airbus_A380-800/texture.base/VC/panels/
http://www.mediafire.com/download/g523ch7v211amzb/texture.base-VC-panels.zip

Replace the house.mtl under ./liveries/ with the new one here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/8j7hy516awm2af5/house.mtl

Spawn the House version of the Airbus-A380-800.

You can inspect the .mtl file. The opacity maps use white for opaque and black for transparent, and saved using Compressonator as ATI13Dc --> ATI1N

It works day or night as long as there is another separate opaque mesh behind the screen mesh, or else it will be transparent when illuminated.

Regards,
Uriah

I've posted a temporary solution to this a while ago (now used by Uriah509 here, nice job btw ;)), but it seems that somehow you've missed it. =D

Such nice panels ... they could be made working easily. Just few texture-meshes placed milimeters in front of each other, turning like normal gauges whyte some transparency.  Great look !
