Good Morning Everyone!
Okay. I seriously love Outerra and want to help in any way I can, to make it easier
for new users and old users alike to obtain Models, Textures, Tutorials, Etc...
As of late I have been importing Models into Outerra like a mad man. I would then
post the .OTX to the forums for other users to use. I got a Check Plus in sharing back
in pre-school. I browsed the forums for other models...Finding tons of amazing work!
Some near the front and some hidden within the threads near the back end. I thought to
myself, "There just has to be a better way to organize all of this great work."
So I used a domain name I had, www.camdavre.com (http://www.camdavre.com), to setup a website with all of my models
nicely organized for anyone to download.
I have messaged a few other "Modelers and Importers," asking if it was okay to also publish
their models on the site, including credit to them for their work, and have already heard back
from a few who were totally cool with it!
I am off of work today and my son is at Daycare. SO I will be spending a large portion of my
day watching Movies and adding/organizing as many models as I can.
If I have not messaged you yet and you would like your models included, with full credit to you,
please comment here or send me a PM. I am also open to suggestions/help with the following:
- A better domain name for the site. I will register and pay for it, no problem. I just had
camdavre.com (http://camdavre.com) sitting around doing nothing and used it.
- A better "Library Type" theme for wordpress. I am currently using the base model because
it is quite easy to add models quickly. But if anyone can recommend a more organized theme,
let me know.
- If anyone would like a USERNAME and PASSWORD, so they could add their models or other
work themselves, just shoot me a PM and you got it!
- Absolutely any other suggestions or ideas are welcome!

It should help a lot, especially:
1) For people unsure of a good hosting spot
2) Because we need all this stuff organized (badly!)
3) Because this is as good a time as ever to get everything into OTX format
Of course, the only worry is what happens if YOU suddenly disappear on us one day, and all those models go POOF!! :o

Levi!! Awesome site. And with you being a creator, I don't see any reason why you can't have a site as well. Redundancy in these things is good, especially if one site or the other ever goes away.
And anyone who does this, be careful!! We all know there are malicious jerks out there that love messing with peoples sites.

Outerra is lucky to have so much enthusiasm and have such a proactive community before they are even out of Alpha. It bodes well, if they can just hold it all together.

And I agree with you about the malicious jerks. There's always bad people out there, unfortunately.

If people were so inclined we could setup a BTsync that just "synced" everyone's model folder. I'd probably work out a "master" account and make everyone else a Read Only. That way some master gets all the good models (and hopefully has decent upload speed) and then it trickles down and across to anyone in the network.

This is a fantastic idea!
Years ago I would spend hours and days on garrysmod.org just downloading any slightly interesting or cool addon/map I would see and I ended up with an addon folder 10GB in size 8)
And now that Outerra uses .otx for addons it is quite literally point and click, so collecting and collating all the models/addons ever made into one site would significantly speed up the process of just searching for mods, downloading and then going back to make something cool with them in Outerra.
Also I imported just a few models into Outerra if you wish to host them on your site that would be neat.

Just wanted to give an update. I have added almost every model that I was
given permission to add! Camdavre.com now has and hosts a TON of Outerra
ready, .OTX Models! I will continue to add mine and seek permission from any
new and old modelers on our great forums!

This is a great idea, so I set one up. I'm also building a db of models and set it to auto update my BTsync folder with extracted otx files as they are added. You can just point this at your packages folder and watch the new models roll in automatically! This also should work as an auto updater to keep all of your models up to date.

This is terrific! I suggest using smaller images that link to larger, and putting more items on a page. Doing this in a grid would be helpful too. If the library starts to fill up, people will get tired of browsing through page after page of items if there really aren't all that many items on a page.

... have you any adea of extending it later to support texture-versions of the stuff ? ... its true, there would be a need to make, for each, a separate pack, where all have the texture files in special folders (to be able to install multiple ones whyteout rewriting existing ones) and basic files in some orderly manner - thats doe the creators/modders choice for any model in mind ... what my point is is somekind of search or browse friendly settup to find textures for selected models ( i know thats a tale of far grand future, when 500 active modders jump onto OT :D )on the site and their addition whyteout rewriting or updating constantly the ''main-page'' of the certain model ... it could proove usefull for the future, when community things escalate more quickly.

For some reason, there are not categories anymore. I would suggest you to activate them again, or put some sort of filter, because if (or should I say "when") your page gets bigger, it will be unmanageable.

^^ Agreed. Though, I don't think either of us are willing to sacrifice our site builds at the moment. I personally have way too much time invested, though I would be happy to host all of these models at some point down the line if AnimatedSyn gets tired of maintaining camdavre.

Yes we have talked and he has replied right above me with a mirror of what I would have said.
We have both spent some serious time putting these libraries together. And therefore neither
of us really wanna give up our new hobby. Personally, I am having a blast putting this site
together, and I am sure theshanergy feels the same way.
Having multiple sites will never be a bad thing. I have no plans on disappearing anytime soon...
But who knows..I could slip in the shower and die... And believe me...My wife has no idea
what Outerra is let alone making sure the web hosting bills are paid. LOL.
As for the categories missing.... You probally logged onto the site as I was in the middle of editing.
I have been working on the new Look and Flow of the site as well as slowly implementing new features
all day. LOL. They are back now. Better as far as I am concerned.

Another consideration: When/if Outerra Lighting is implemented (not to mention enhanced collisions) I expect there will be a lot of retro-fitting and general mayhem on these models. Be prepared!!! :o

I notice in this latest update you've stolen written content from my site verbatim. I don't mind if you link to my models, or even relink the otx downloads as they are free for anyone to use, but copy pasting exact original site content will only serve to hurt us both in Google's rankings.

Thanks. I don't think it is reasonable to expect individual permission from each model maintainer just to re-host their models, though proper attribution is definitely something we should both ensure on our respective sites. In this case some of the models you've uploaded were originally created by me, so I would suggest a link back to outerramods.com (oh, the irony), or removal. I will of course do the same for any original works of yours (as I have done others).

Well it has been a while but I am still here!
Just wanted to let you guys know the new site is up and running and looks beautiful!
We had some plugin conflicts on the old site after we updated and the site went nuts. So instead of fixing it we redesigned from the ground up! The new site is much more responsive and visually pleasing.
We are still adding all the old models from backup, but 80% is back up and it just felt like time to get things back up and running.
A note.. If you had an account on the Outerra Model library in the past, it may have gotten corrupted during the backup process. If you are unable to login to your old account, simply message me With your email address and we will send you a password reset request so you can login and fully enjoy the site.
