So, I had the idea of an Outerra Racing League. Basically, a racing league. In Outerra. Funny that.
Rules:
- You upload a single-take YT video of your race.
- Any route is allowed between the start and finish line
- You have to remain in your vehicle at all times (Hit the ~ button if your car flips)
Event Types:
- Endurance Raid: This event is an off-road point-to-point race that spans many kilometres and usually takes around an hour.
- Endurance Road: This event takes place on a circuit that usually takes around a minute per lap, but the race spans many laps, and usually takes around half an hour.
- Free Sprint: This event is a mixed on and off road race that spans a few kilometres, and is point-to-point. There are a mix of on and off-road routes, and the event usually takes around 10-15 minutes.
- Road Sprint: This event takes place on a single road that spans a few kilometres. It is on-road ONLY, and spans a few kilometres, taking around 10-15 minutes to complete.
Classes: (Classes will be refined if I can get good horsepower and weight numbers, lol)
- Heavy Trucks (the stock OT Tatra and the Ural)
- Trucks (more lightweight trucks, not sure what fits here, not a truck expert :p)
- Off-Road cars (4Runner, Jeep Cherokee, Wrangler, etc.)
- Street Cars (Nissan Pulsar GTiR, Mitsubishi Evo's, etc.)
- Supercars (Lambo's, anything thats stupidly fast, basically)
Upcoming Races:
Location: TBD Date: TBC
Cheers for all the support and ideas coming!

>> You have to remain in your vehicle at all times (If your car flips, you may spawn a new one at the point where you car flips/glitches)
You know the ~ key un-flips vehicles right? So that would be the thing to use. Also ALT+R is a full reset of the vehicle.
The issue is the 4 hour long recording, the game/exporter not crashing and then uploading to youtube. I don't think it is do-able in that sense.
That said I think some shorter 10 minute challenges would be awesome
-
Oh, didn't know there was an unflip vehicle shortcut, lol.
Yeah, I guess it could be an issue with bandwidth usage and all. Didn't think of that, so used to my unlimited internet ;)
Cheers for the support! I'm sure we'll come up with a way around it or whatever.

It's a very nice idea ! I will participate ! ;)

Sweet. I'll send you a PM or something when I/we figure something out.
-
OK thanks ! ;)
I'm okay to participate at a race of 10-15 minutes.
When we will have the multiplayer, i will be okay to participate at races like 1 houres with friends ! ;)

Yeah, that's along the lines of what I was thinking. I'll set up shorter races for now, when we get multiplayer we can have loooong races :)
-
Great idea! I look forward to participate :)

Just for inspiration. My friends and I have a map for rFactor that is 78km long. It looks like you are driving in atari because detail cant be any higher but it is HILARIOUS FUN

This is what I'd love to do in OT one day. I just hope the vehicle physics and netcode can handle it.
-
MACH 2 at second gear ! ;D Yes, that what LAN-party OT sport racing should be. 8) Also, the off-road parts will be a hell lot more bumpy compared to that ...
P.S.: What was that reverse up-hill ? So much power !
-
It's gonna be awesome when there's multiplayer that doesn't glitch or anything like that, and we can organise road trips and long-distance endurance races (like in the OP)
Can't wait, the future of OT is looking damn fine.
-
So, when does the first race start? :)
-
It's a really funny idea !
If I have more time later, and if you are interested, I will try to find a nice spot and create a long track if you want a on-road theme for one of your races :)

^^ Let's do this! Are you able to package individual roads or groups of roads in an otx file? How did you do your Alaska scene?

Yup, I just have to locate more or less where in the cache data is the modified area (if I share all my cache content that way, I will probably break a lot of user made locations) and pack it. Unfortunately, I'm away from my main PC for a few weeks, but I will do some tests when I'm back. It will be a nice break between two serious road placement sessions :)

Now that would be awesome! On top of that i had another idea. What about an on-road and/or off-road sprint race?
You start in a small village and you must get to the end by road(good for cars) or you can just off-road you way across the land (awesome for everything else). We just have to share the cache, which is not difficult and play by the rules!

yea it would be awesome if there were a few different routes, some on road, some off, with the option for some shortcuts that would be slow and/or steep. I guess we would need to agree on the vehicle selection as well. Either that or we could just post fastest times per vehicle (or vehicle class).
-
Now its just a matter of finding a good spot and making it look cool for the race!
But first, I have another question. I have modified my vehicles scripts so they are faster / more off-road capable, etc. Will that be tolerated in the event or do you must use the original vehicle script?
-
I guess it'd be fine. Maybe I'll add a class-based system (as theshanergy suggested), so all the cars are grouped together for individual classes, and then an open class with everything all smooshed together.
Cheers for all the support, can't believe this took off like it did.
Oh, and I think we should host the first race in New Zealand! Especially the Wellington (bottom of North Island) area, there's a whole bunch of nice hills mixed with flat parts
Also, OP updated!

I once put a race track around the rim of an active volcano off the coast of Africa.. Just saying.

That sounds epic, hehe.

That was the video that made me fall in love with Outerra, and even though it didn't have sound i still watched 'till the end :P

"active"

"active"
because active volcanoes actually erupt in OT.
...in a few years, maybe. :)

30 minutes of work and I came up with an really cool race track in south America. It's a really long road (around 30min of driving). I've keep it fairly large in case of spinning.
I will modify some sections, add few props here and there and it will be ready for release :)

Looks very nice!

It's a fairly nice location, in Colombia (South America). I've kept the road really large to make it more enjoyable but remember: in Outerra overspeeding often end with insane loopings in the air. Try to keep a 70/80 mph max speed. I had a fairly nice experience with the Chevy, but I think a high-speed futuristic vehicule like F-Zero's ones would be the best :)

Oh my, that looks fantastic. I've been inactive over the past few months, but hell, I think I need to play this a whole lot more lol. I'll get a video up of my lap ASAP.
