Title: TitanIM, an Outerra-based military simulation platform
Post by: cameni on December 07, 2014, 12:44:22 pm
Revealed at the world's largest modeling, simulation and training conference oriented at military use, I/ITSEC (Orlando 1-5.Dec 2014), TitanIM is a new simulation platform built on top of the Outerra engine, utilizing its ability to render the whole planet with the full range of detail levels from space down to the blades of grass.

Congratulations !

I've got a really simple question, and I have seen some Outerrans ask it too :

Which parts of the project are exclusive to Titan and wich ones will be present in the public version of Outerra ?

I imagine that models/vehicules and some of the tools are exclusive, but many things visible in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbdeyhksZv0&feature=youtu.be) are already implemented or announced in Outerra. The difference is generally the way they are handled, for example the ballistic system or the thermal camera in the plane.

I think it may be a good idea to give users a good idea of what we may expect in a near (or far) futur  :)

Btw, congratulation for reaching this milestone, I think pretty much everyone here agree to say it's a good news! I hope this will help you to expand your team, and make more easy to handle what I imagine to be an insane amount of work (Outerra, your various exprimentations with third party partners and now TitanIM)  :)

Jawsome. Now to get the community involved in copying the same functionality for arma like game modes.

Features that we are making as a part of the engine are generally ours to reuse in our games and simulators, with the exception of some possibly classified stuff (some interfaces or data). This includes stuff like weather, various effects, some procedural stuff etc that are developed initially or out of the order for Titan, though we may sometimes have to re-create data, if the original ones came from licensed sources.

Models are made by Titan, but they are willing to share with us some of them. For example, the MiG was actually made for Titan, and shared with OT. There will be some other models coming from there, mainly some types that we do not have. One of them are tanks, but we need to implement track animation first.

YEs.. Tank tracks and physics. Then you just have to deliver that grass bending / terrain deformation we discussed in like.. 2011. So I can leave tracks in the snow and soft dirt!

Congratulates!

I hope very much that her both (OT&TITAN) will divide a long way together and us USER's
and will please MODDER's, as well as small DEV's, with your creative and on simulation to
based projects even longer time with it.
In other words, very good and about all pleasing news!

Yours sincerely,
AHDG Team.

Cameni, congratulations to you and team, this is amazing news.

Reminds me of when I posted one of my first posts theorising about a sort of "ArmA Online" game for the engine, though it was never an unobvious choice as many since posted highly similar hopes.

This is surely a huge step towards a new era of gaming.
