I know from reading that head-tracking with trackir and the like is going to be supported eventually, but what of those of us who don't have such setups?
In flightgear, if you run linux, there's a hack (which if i understand just sends mouse signals) that implements head-tracking with a webcam, using https://github.com/ralph-glass/headtrack
I understand that's GPL, so thats a difficulty (i believe) but please implement some sort of webcam head-tracking if possible.
NB. Primarily interested in the world buliding game.

Looks interesting. How much does it tax the computing resources?
If I understand the description correctly, there's a serving program that is GPL, but a receiving program doesn't have to be - it just receives datagrams with head position/orientation.

I would have no idea. Unfortunately my main computer isn't running linux, and on my old computer flightgear barely runs in the first place so i've never bothered doing it.
The developers blog is http://headtracking.blogspot.com

A free Face Tracking API is available for use with a webcam. Works pretty well if your webcam can capture at a high framerate.
A friend made a tutorial complete with links .. Have a go cameni.
