Title: Fractal resampled terrain - downloadable?
Post by: 2eyed on April 12, 2015, 09:45:10 am
When the new refined earth dataset (fractal resampled) gets released, do we have to download the whole thing again or is it updated on demand while exploring?

A 30M resolution world data would be something like 50 GB?

You didn't have to download the whole thing in the first place, it was always downloaded on demand while exploring. When it's updated, program will detect that local files are outdated and it will again start downloading pieces it needs for the location where you are.

However, fractal resampling alone probably isn't worth the hassle of updating everything, mainly because there are further updates on the way that will greatly enhance the terrain even for the current level (~76m) dataset.

More info ... soon :)

Which is big, but not compared to your average X-plane download, or the mind-numbing, internet-choking horror of a zillion people downloading GTA5 all at once.....
