Title: Weird little places to find in Outerra
Post by: HiFlyer on April 24, 2015, 11:42:29 am
It would probably be very easy to make scenery for these little places, too.  :)

The last picture is of one of the hardest places to reach on earth.

Huacachina, Peru

Aogashima, Philippine Sea

Giant mole hills. An entire population of over a thousand residents live underground in dugouts at Coober Pedy in northern South Australia

Monemvasia, Greece

Since these places have really specific terrain, they are a bit smoothed in Outerra (I think the parameter helping the mountains to look less flat is only working at a certain altitude above the sea). It's still looks good, vegetation and color aside, but I think the new dataset will certainly improve a lot places like these :)

Just looking at more places like this today. Imagine actually living in some of these areas.....

Would that be cool, or what?

Or would you be bummed, and dreaming about big cities and gurls........

The town in the last picture takes six days by boat to reach by boat. I doubt if there is internet..........   =D

Aogashima
Really amazing. It is the closest thing to live inside a volcano.
I tried to reproduce the vegetation with the values of "forest" outerra but does nothing.

Actually its not like living inside a volcano, they actually are living inside one. When it erupted last (in the 1700's) it killed almost half the population, and the survivors eventually moved right back in.

Yep, but you start to realize something is really really wrong in the middle of the story. It's literally PTSD simulator (http://tinyurl.com/kjlmm6w) (heavy spoiler).

Was looking for some large and recognizable terrain features and cannot find the Mirny Diamond mine at all. Maybe I am looking in the wrong spot? Can anyone find it?

On the other hand, I was able to locate the Richat structure (21.1240° N, 11.4020° W) but obviously the colors are not there. Maybe the devs can look at places like this one day.  :)

Cerro Sarisariñama in Venezuela has fascinating topography in Outerra and is incredibly lush. I wasn't able to find any of the famous sinkholes, though. Can you?

Current data grid is too low resolution for some of the mines and sinkoles, you really need to have one point of the grid in the middle of a hole to see it. Should be better when the 30m dataset will be released.

If you are interested by man made structures, there is a gigantic mine in South America, visible on several mountains. At first I though it was a terrain bug when I saw it  ::)
