Almost every other thread here is bustling and active except the railways thread. Not many rail sim fans here I guess as opposed to the huge flight sim community. I am a fan of both flight and rail sims so I am interested to know how much is being done for railways. Are the developers neglecting this area totally for the time being or can we expect to see something soon?

I would soo like to see railways in OT myself :)
Railways are waiting for a critical component that's needed for their rendering, which is the spline-driven geometry generator. That in turn needs some upgrades of material renderer system which are currently being incorporated, which are also based on the results of rendering performance benchmark we are currently evaluating, which should also bring some speedups in other areas.

Its 10 months now so how soon is railways going to make an entry into the beautiful word of Outerra?

I been making some locs in Gmax now. I'm going to put its into Trainz, but I can export to 3ds and Outerra too.

Rise of Flight always had an awesome Physics engine. I beta tested it when it was about to be released and still have it on my drive, just because of that, even though that era of Flight is not my favorite.
And all done in DX9, which is amazing, though it means Oculus support is a no-go. =|

the rails in itself is a game, since traveling by train in outerra should be a joy, also I do not think there is much difficulty, I guess everything will be a matter of priorities, but it is still time, it has been a long time the folder of pending matters.

no,, Avi..., it's just a static image.
I added the video to observe the mountains and their incredible resemblance in color and form to many places in Outerra.

Once the railways get implemented, possibly a basic train model to drive, I'm certain the railsim fans will notice and begin to explore outerra. As far as I know from that community, they are a dedicated bunch of fanatics when it comes to user-made content creation. I am looking forward to that moment with all patience required. (Since 2008 I hoped to find some kind of route in the availlable sims that covers the european continent. So with that in mind, for me it'll be just a short wait from now.)

Well they are they are there if you build them yourself. rail elements (and rail bridges) are available in the scenery editor,
