Title: Looking out
Post by: aWac9 on November 29, 2016, 07:40:41 am
I wanted to open a window to the outside, and start a thread where I add the news published by other companies / games / projects etc ..
I think it can be entertaining to see ... that makes the competition.
Companies like Eagles Dinamics are working hard on their project or Xplane 11 where they have greatly improved their theaters and models etc ...
Let's start with this video that appeared in DCS on a project of the AJS-37 vIGGEN
The Saab 37 Viggen is a fighter plane manufactured by the Swedish company Saab between the years 1970 and 1990 in order to replace the Saab 35 Draken. It is a somewhat old hunting and I think retired, but it has a range of 2000 km and a volvo RM8 engine, so it has gained a place in this thread.

DCS (Eagles Dinamics) is a benchmark for military simulation, and its products are of high quality.
I would like to add his latest work, which is in Phase Pre-Alpha "F / A 18C Hornet" really a good job. I think they will get a great final effort.
Note: it is a good reference for OT

Being in the cinema armchair to watch a horror movie, and the first scene of the film was a gentleman who was sitting in an armchair and a subject who was sitting behind him took a katana and passed through the armchair he killed and only He heard a strange sound.
Everyone who was sitting at the cinema turned his head back and frightened we saw the sinister face of the guy who was sitting behind me.

In this virtual reality game, it is even worse, you are the protagonist, you are just the individual of that movie

Do not you remember being afraid? The problem is that you are the protagonist, the problem is that you are the victim, the problem is that what you are living you have seen before, but from another perspective and now you are inside That scene. You are in RV and your brain is out of control.

the limitation in the scalability of the games is a handicap for many engines that are good graphically but can not manage large spaces and their power is limited to small spaces.
This engine is an example.
Unreal Engine 4 (1440p 60 fps)

May I cautiously disagree? UE4 is capable of rendering quite large landscapes. Did you ever came across the UE4 "Kite Demo"? No it's not global rendering but also not "small spaces". Or Ubisoft's Anvil engine with e.g. Assassins Creed Origins.

In this video, you will see a gameplay demo from Book Of The Dead. An Unity demo with some great ''Quixel Megascans'' textures.
Quixel Megascans are high res textures from real life locations. First you will see the demo, and afterwards an ingame playdemo from a PS4 pro. (720p60fps)
Also some demos from Quixel Megascans, so you can see how great it can look!   8) :o

https://youtu.be/6oo293kIGPQ

David Jones said
Quixel Megascans seems really effective at building a scene... the size of football pitch. The effort and technology to bring this to an open world game though is completely unrealistic, so at the moment this can only be little more than a demo. Sorry to burst some peoples baloons LOL. FarCry 5 would be a more realistic view of the cutting edge graphics of today, however even that game lacks in certain areas but generally is pretty amazing to look at if you have the hardware to run it. ;) ;)

The game GTA V had a budget that was around 100,000,000 $ and raised 6,000,000,000 $ doubling the proceeds from the biggest movie box offices such as Star Wars.
Similar budget has had Red Dead Redemption2 although this is only conjecture, we will see over time how much it raises.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Hand in hand with Rockstar Games gives us an adventure of the Wild West, a western where you empathize and wish you were there, with your revolver.
The band of Dutch Van Der Linde, Morgan, Marston, Dutch have to look for their fortune before they run out of the West. An essential open world game in your games library.
We should all know the race of the horse that Morgan assembles
We ride with outlaws.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

I have searched for information about this new Microsoft simulator and it seems that it comes with satellite data, artificial intelligence and a new 3D engine, the flight simulator seems almost photorealistic
an impressive graphic quality. Microsoft Flight Simulator supports 4K resolution and HDR high contrast mode with a color depth of 10 bits, up to 1.07 billion colors instead of just 16.7 million colors. This allows to create particularly fine gradations, such as the presentation The volumetric clouds, the fog, the rays of the sun and the reflections benefit, and in conjunction with a skilful environmental concealment (environmental occlusion) can create a photorealistic impression.
Huge geometric level of detail of the landscape and soil objects along with matching textures. According to Microsoft, it uses a combination of satellite data and Azure AI.
it is possible that two-dimensional maps can be used to generate three-dimensional models using AI algorithms to complement certain cities modeled in 3D, separately

they say that it will come out in XBOX and PC version thinking of a Cloud OS, Azore AI, maybe they will match W11  8)
we will have to wait before we know where they are going.

they will try, but they will not be able to reach us. :)

is well and promises the dynamic climate

Interesting "deep simulation" for civilization strategy game  :) in a dynamically evolving virtual world
https://demiansky.itch.io/songs-of-the-eons

when we talk about a game, or simulation, we tend to think of an advanced AI with design and operation of complicated mechanisms (radar, logistics, etc.), however, there is a simpler shortcut .. it would be enough to make a vehicle workable, truck, train , boat or plane to play by performing simple tasks, rescues, loads of goods .. even a simple mechanical shovel dismantling a ground is a game ..
it depends on how complicated we want to do it ..
An example.
This is a Mi-8MTV2 helicopter from DCS, your task is to wait for an emergency call and go to the rescue.
Fun and relaxing.
Outerra has that within reach, since it is the most difficult theater.

The map of Syria is a magnificent theater, well detailed and runs very fluid, maybe it is very heavy, it occupies 50 GB, although it has some serious flaws, it does not visualize objects in the distance well, the trees appear out of nowhere and mountains in the distance are blurred, and at high altitude, they look very bad .. I think this is a DCS "EDGE" motor problem. It is an engine so it looks very limited, but I can't say so either.
They have taken a video of the map and the truth is that it looks very good.

Not sure if this game was created or contributed to by a former outerra modder (zzz) or if he just tried to reproduce in outerra what was already there before.
Seems rather the latter   (https://www.moddb.com/games/eveworld/). Title: Re: Looking out
Post by: fly77 on January 23, 2021, 05:06:17 am
actually that is a little bit confusing ...I think the points are based on the IP address of the webradios (that's what they say ..under "settings" as they use free GeoIP to locate the radio stations) but IP location may not correspond to location that you hear these same stations on FM ...so the location points could be misleading...or well they just represent maybe the location of the server that streams the music....not the location of the studios or FM antennas nor the range you can recieve  these stations via FM....that's the impression I have.

Im trying to achieve the same inside outerra (..and I found the way to stream webradio audio streams inside outerra  :)...) but the only issue that is blocking me is that while I can get a list of http adresses or IP numbers for the radiostations (or their playlist streams) when I try to geolocalize them via for instance https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo they point to completely unexpected locations ..not even the same country and not even the same continent  :o  something is wrong with my procedure to look up the webradios's geolocations...any suggestions are welcome

In short what is missing: a list of webradio  geolocations with their associated IP numbers or http weblinks to their audiostreams

building it manually is maybe OK for a hundred or so - even if it still a lot of work - but not for the tens of thousands worldwide

unfortunately I could not find a way to "extract" all this info from the radio-garden website ...and probably its even not possible as they would be dumb not to protect this precious info

There are many ideas for Outerra. The problem is that so far the software is very much a "Jack of all trades, master of none".

It can "almost" do a lot of things, but focus is diffuse and ephemeral. As far as I can tell, the developers have committed to no single direction at all, leaving the whole thing rudderless and essentially as a kind of incomplete sandbox/tech-toy.

The question remains the same as it was years ago: Where is this going?

The answer seems to be: Make a wish, and check back every year, or so, while hoping that when you do, you won't find an apache error because the forum is gone.  :'(
Title: Re: Looking out
Post by: fly77 on March 04, 2021, 04:00:11 pm
"where is this going ?" who knows. IMO its actually not clear even where it COULD be going SUCCESSFULLY...so it is not so much of a wonder why no focus has yet emerged.

Indeed considering that outerra is very good in rendering the WHOLE world, but much  less in the tools needed to create a game it seems hard to see how it could compete
with any map based game created with established engines which appear to be much better equipped to make games of all kinds.

IMO the only path to success for outerra involves
heavily exploiting the immense extension of planet earth and its infinite terrains/landscapes which are reproduced in great detail/quality in outerra.
Games "just" using maps surely are better made with establisehd engines.

So where COULD it go (meaningfully) in the first place ?
Suggestions are welcome.

- flight simulator for sure , but that is a simulator not a game and there are already lots of simulators out there.
- military sim on global scale ?? doesn't seem to make sense to me if action only happens locally...but I admit my ignorance in this matter
- civilization building /  transport games....makes sense ...probably...but "simulating civilizations /transport/commerce on planetary scale " may be a tiny bit too computationally intensive for a game ....as it should involve 3D rendering of all this activity worldwide..otherwise why use outerra...a nearly 2D board style game would do better
- other ?
maybe something "tourism" related

It's a great job, from what I've read about the engine, they work with dynamic rendering (so as not to crash the GPU), it's a first-person shooter engine, and it's not planetary... I think my mig29 doesn't need it.
