Title: Will we get railroad tracks soon?
Post by: fly77 on September 09, 2018, 06:09:29 pm
I know it had allready been asked in the past but how far are we from getting railroad networks? The data should be available in OSM i guess. Are railroad tracks more difficult to generate than roads?

Data are in OSM but they need some reprocessing (as usual, since mapping and 3D requirements are slightly different).

Railroad tracks are more difficult to generate because in addition to terrain modification, leveling and creation of a ballast road we also need to generate instantiated track geometry with LODs. Many components are in place for it in new pipeline, but it's not yet complete.
