Title: AI Building Cities?
Post by: Seth on September 03, 2011, 02:59:51 pm
Hi Guys,

Is it possible for the AI to build cities?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tron_characters#Clu_2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tron_characters#Clu_2)

"Clu was created by Flynn to oversee the development of the Grid, so that Flynn could make time in the "real world" as CEO of Encom"

The actual 3D models are pre-made but they can be edited lightly.
Imagine, the AI starts of with a few huts, the algorithm tell it how a cities progress over time, bigger houses and more roads.

Over time the AI places more 3D models like hospital, airports, etc.
All based on different parameters.

I think I'm being influenced by Cities XL.

Is all that possible?

The application being that the AI controls the development of a city based on the population of users in that area.

Disclaimer: I KNOW that I don't know what I'm talking about, that's why I ask questions!

Well, if you are asking about the possibility of using AI to plan the cities iteratively, it certainly is possible. SimCity AI?

The random city generator will take the requested zone type and an area as parameters, and generate the buildings in it from some predefined templates, altering its parameters to get the variety and to fit it into the area. A controlling module atop of it could be planning the whole city using these zones.

Thanks for the great info and pointing me in the right direction.
I'll have a look at SimCity. :)

You've never played SimCity... :o

(Woah, why is the main reply button so small?  I thought I was going crazy for while before I finally found it.  :P)
