Title: rotating beacons for civilian airports (release)
Post by: fly77 on November 14, 2019, 02:43:50 pm
It is my pleasure to share with you a set of rotating beacons for civilian airports

They come in four varieties

green-white eventually used in combination with  green only       for lighted land airports

yellow-white eventually used in combination with  yellow only     for lighted sea airports (for floatplanes)

download from here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2174vsa7c2p0n2u/AABmPc8JzWRoAsWyi7s8jLW4a?dl=0

installation: click on self-installing beacon.otx file

use:

find the beacons under F2 vehicles menu (as the animated beacons so far need to be modelled as vehicles)  or use them to place them in your sceneries from the outerra dcenery editor (F7 key)
under assets search for "beacon" and choose the apropriate beacon from its thumbnail.

after spawning press:

v key for internal view

c key for external view

j key to increase light intsensity

k key to decrease light intensity

L key to switch off the beacon

p key to increase rotation speed

o key to decrease rotation speed

ENTER to exit the beacon "vehicle"

once exited you can still re-enter the beacon by moving close to it in ufo-mode
and then press ENTER key as you would do with any other vehicle, so the above commands
become again available to control the beacon

If you place more than one beacon , each one can be controlled independently.
Note that for rotation speed control in case you place more than one beacon of a given color type
to control the speed for the 2nd (and onward) you need to ENTER and exit the beacon twice..(otherwise you can only increase but not decrease its speed...haven't figured out yet why  :()
Alternativelt press CTRL+ALT+R to reinitialize the second beacon.

for the moment not but I can add it. Presently it is set at 24 rpm which gives 24 flashes of each color per minute. I hope I have understood right what is written in wikipedia about the topic:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerodrome_beacon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerodrome_beacon)

24 to 30 per minute for beacons marking airports, landmarks, and points on Federal airways
30 to 45 per minute for beacons marking heliports

Yes, that's fine, it's correct.
I meant that this light could also be used for the light of the nautical lighthouses.

Ah for that purpose I will make a different one (which has 4 rotating WHITE !  beams and rotates slower)

Anyway I have updated the file and you can now increase or decrease rotation speed at will pressing "p" or "o" key....can give quite funny results !  :)

unfortuntaely I do not have the original 3D model, so we'll need to place it on top of Rudeboy1988's beacon for the moment..or find a good 3D model of a beacon
