Cameni has already posted saying that he's thinking of moving the forums to SMF. I'm happy with that, and am starting this topic so as to generate new ideas for what it should be like. For a theme, Inferno, (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2173) Lilac Purple, (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2091) or LightModern (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2066) would be awesome choices, but are by no means the only ones.
Here are some more questions to decide:
What avatar size? I'm fine with anything between 80x80 and 100x100.
Reputation/karma system? I've seen mixed results from them, but it's always worth a try.
Ranks beyond the current Admin/Member/New member ones? I'm all for them, if they're creative enough.
Anyone else got any suggestions?

I want a custom theme so that it's in line with the rest of the site. Here's a preview (http://www.outerra.com/forum3/), based on BlackBox (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=961) I think. Not yet finished, some labels are too light etc.
Of course, people will be able to set their own theme as well.
The forums aren't that much active (and it's OK that way) so I don't think we need a karma system yet.
Ranks don't matter to me for the same reason, but if anyone's got an idea ..

I took a look at the preview, and I liked what I saw. Great work, and I hope it attracts more people. And I'm fine with your beliefs about the karma system. I've seen it abused for petty matters. For instance, I got slammed with negative karma on another forum simply because another guys didn't like a suggestion I had made.
