Title: Request from me to the Community!
Post by: C. Shawn Smith on March 04, 2012, 07:50:05 pm
Hello guys and gals!

To those who may be new or don't otherwise know me, I've been a member of the Outerra community for a couple of years now, and will be authoring the prologue novella to the Anteworld game.  But I also do some videography on the side in my spare time, as evidenced from the original 2010 Retrospective Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeoT_cz2nC0#ws) I did in December of that year.

Now that you guys have had your hands-on with the engine, if any of you have the HD space to create some really scenic videos that show off the engine in its glory, I'd like to enlist your help.  First, you'll need a YouTube account, where you can upload the converted video (Vimeo works as well, so long as you can provide a download link for me).

Secondly, that awesome video sequence you just HAPPENED to capture at the right moment.  It can something as simple as a Cessna flyby of an interesting location, or some sort of combat-looking maneuver with the Apache.  Or maybe even you driving down a road into an awesome city you've just built.  The only thing is that it shouldn't show any major issues or bugs, and that the framerates remain a consistent 30fps (I'm having some issues running my recording software and maintaining that framerate).

My goal is to put together another video compiling the Outerra/Anteworld-user experience.  While I can't guarantee I will use every video (after all, these things don't need to be more than 2 or 3 minutes long at most), if I do use a sequence in your video, I will add you to the list of credits for videography :).

If you're interested, please post to this thread with a link to the video.

Thanks in advanced!

If you would like full quality files might I recommend people use MINUS (http://min.us/rTXAATv) since they allow up to 2GB files and that link gives you 11GB total storage to start.

You can expect video from me btw.

Should have also mentioned videos NEED to be at least 720p.

Zeos, I already have followed some of your videos, and there are a couple of clips I definitely want to use.  Hoping to get some of this finalized by the end of the week, just need a few more people to participate in the project.

Outerra - 2012-03-05 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjUPIklEgcI#)  Something I did unexpectedly sort of ruined by the terrain loading bars at the bottom. Then the last half is full of just plain fail of me looking for that perfect spot again.

I got dizzy and nauseous, and then fell out of my chair, just by watching the end of it :P

Some of that footage will be useful!  Thanks!!!

Timelapse test : timelapse test (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALQDGbw1wJw#ws)

Right now, it is not very easy to do so, I'm waiting for a more simple way to do it,
as I'm asking in this topic http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=813.0 (http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=813.0)

It probably takes longer to make the video than it does to set the times and capture it.  ::)  Though I guess it depends on how small you want the time increments to be.

I somehow missed this post, but it gave me good laugh now :D

Not once did this happen to me. Found a nice spot, maneuvered around to get a good flight path or to look around, got too far, couldn't find it again for the life of me.
All the good spots that I didn't mark, lying there somewhere :'(

for time lapse you can use cheat engine, with it you can slowdown or accelerate anygame :)

Would you be interested in construction shots? I could see a time lapse of someone building a village could be pretty neat.

Well, and Cameni please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the time goes on, actually, in Outerra.
I'm not sure, but I've been like 15 or 20 minutes in a row in game, minutes before the sun is supposed to rise, but didn't noticed any change in the light, as if the time stays static.

So to speed up the game wouldn't not change anything. Beside, is not Cheat Engine only for DirectX-based games?

The time does not currently change on its own in Outerra.

Interested primarily in beauty shots.  "After" you've created the city/scene/et al.

A short video from me, about a (small) city near the ocean, with a panoramic view from the mountain alongside the ocean, with roads, boats and fake vehicles made from the "module" object :)

Outerra01 - Video near ocean with town (by XZS) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyjw86gfcYY#ws)

By accident, I've discovered the F12 key turn down the sun light, and shift+F12 do the opposite (as my F12 is used to record video with Fraps).

Update: A second video, with differents clips in differents places.

Thank you all who have responded to this thread!

I'm going through these videos and a few others over the course of the week, picking out some of the most influential shots, and will cobble them together (hopefully) in a nice advertisement video next weekend!  I've seen some shots already that leave me breathless, and some that I've tried to capture properly but jerky mouse movements or other issues caused problems (I'm on a slightly lower end graphics card, so what I record isn't always ideal).

One thing to add to the OP however: Hide that mouse cursor unless it's necessary for the shot!  (Note to Cameni: that should be an option in the UI, if it isn't already there ... stopped using the in-engine recording feature now that other sources don't cause the crashes I experienced before, because I save a step in video editing by bypassing the conversion of the YOG format).

How do you remove the mouse cursor? when I press f9 to record it just pops up and I don't know the keypress to get rid of it, is there a key to hide it?

Hmm ... for some reason I was thinking it was possible in Outerra.  Nevermind :)
