Title: Real time updating texture and chunk
Post by: yannick13014 on March 07, 2012, 07:20:56 pm
Hello every body!

I need to know if an administrator want to test with me a real time updating chunk.
I have a big downloading connection and uploading too.
With the Anteworld software, my downloading is lock at 200Ko/s.
I can download at 12.5Mo/s and upload at 5.25Mo/s!
If you are ok with my idea, tell me how to do it!

Thanks .

The download cap is probably imposed by our provider, though I'm getting higher speeds from it so it may be something in between too.
But you can download the full terrain data here (http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=645.msg8073#msg8073)

From what I've seen over the course of the last six months or so, is that the main server is capped at about 400.  I can sometimes burst to 500+, but the average is about 400.  Most likely, you'll have a bad hop somewhere along the route (IIRC, the main server is located in Eastern US? Cameni?).  You could temporarily try changing to a GoogleDNS or OpenDNS to see if that helps any.

Namebench (http://code.google.com/p/namebench/) is a utility I sometimes advise people of looking in my RL job.  Sometimes, the default ISP DNS servers aren't the best.  (*edited to add: Use at your own risk!)

Download speeds for terrain, at least here in the states, are probably somewhere between 200-400k, depending on connection, at least in my experience.  Not a huge issue for me, since I've stopped traveling so much :)

We are using two different servers, one for web and forum, and another for the data and downloads.
Account management is on the cloud.
