Firstly, the south pole is extremely distorted. Check out 90 degrees south; there are giant vertical cliffs and a diagonal line of towering pillars.
Besides that, the area has a very low resolution... which may simply be the nature of the data. There are hills, but they are nigh-universally lumpy, bland things.

First one is a known issue.
Second one is due to the lower resolution of the data, as you said.

Will this data be corrected with other data or artificially corrected?
-
Most likely it'll have to be artificially corrected. The terrain data is very accurate, but some of the locations have lower resolution thresholds than others (Antarctica being one of them ... just take a look at the USGS website to see where some of the data is limited). Best bet now is any time you find a section like this, bring up the HUD (tab key) and take a screenshot, so that Cameni and AngryPig can be aware of it on their todo list. I think eventually they might have something released to allow the end user to correct the issue, and submit the fix, but that's probably still a ways away.

nicely said, thanks.

You guys need to hijack a satellite and send it so it travels between the poles :)

Saw it myself, and now find i am not the first. Here's the screenshot.

Yes there is also another thread about it.
