Title: Custom Elevation and Orthofoto Data
Post by: Flugwerk on April 04, 2012, 10:33:27 am
Can we add our own custom elevation data and/or orthofoto overlay? If no, would it be possible in any future release?

There is a projectgroup from carthographers guild which used their elevation-data from middleearth. --> http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=843.0 (http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=843.0)
Today you cannot use separate elevation data but in future release you can switch between the sources. It will be possible.

Ortophoto cannot be used directly, as it cannot be refined automatically into ground level detail and vegetation (apart from other problems like the shadows and light distortion).
For OT we need to vectorize the data: creating polygons covering areas of one type (fields, grass, forests ...), assigning the type and then importing it into OT. The first part could be done in OSM, we plan to have an importer from OSM once there is support for vector land classes.
