Title: Trees on my roads
Post by: ZeosPantera on April 19, 2012, 01:34:23 am
I am pretty sure the old road editor was much better at keeping the trees out of the road. I currently have to go and check every bit to see what is on the road and try to mess with nearby nodes until the trees go away. And I still missed a few blatant ones.

EDIT: Unrelated note. Cameni can I has White Balance control yet?

Yep, something happened to the tree shooer. Though, it never worked 100% even before. The problem is that even though the tree locator knows where the trees cannot be, some of the trees get to the forbidden area because of the tree displacement (±3m, blind) and also because they apparently do not respect that the road suppresses terrain displacement. I need to find a more stable solution for that.

White balance, white balance ... what was that again?

Yes I know that Problem to. Sometimes it helps to expand the transitional Area.

This http://outerra.blogspot.com/2011/07/white-balance.html (http://outerra.blogspot.com/2011/07/white-balance.html)

I love it.. BUT I HATE IT.. It needs tweak-ability!

Hmm, but what kind of tweakability? There are some things that can be modified in how the algorithm works, but that's not an end-user tweaking. Maybe some RGB coefficients to modify the amount of balancing, though it would be hard to explain what's that supposed to do ...

Well, white balance is a variable thing. In camera's you go into an environment and pull out a white sheet of paper, point the camera and tell the camera "THIS" is white, and it adjusts everything around it.

So I suppose it would need to be similar in-game. Having it off by default and should you want to use it for photo's or video enable and adjust to the current lighting.

I will be happy with just on and off for now. This feels like it would be better suited to my DSLR addon idea for photography.

You know an option to push trees X meters from the road is a good option to add. A big highway always has the trees far enough away from the road to prevent mishap.

Also I tried these settings for a dirt road.

And making the "road" width 1m meant the trees just totally didn't give a sh!t where they were. Though it made the setup look more realistic but the tree rape ruined it.

In the desert area you'll never find trees.  :P
