User gallery reorganization
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:06:06 am »

Guys, seeking ideas how to reorganize the user mods forum. Should I make a separate board with subforums dedicated for static models, vehicles and aircraft, or should we just keep it as it's now, only creating & sticking thematic threads that will contain posts with all downloadable models? Any other ideas?

I personally think a reorganization of the main gallery forum with different subforums for aircraft/vehicles/watercrafts/released addons would be nice. It would improve the overview of the gallery.

    Agree, but with more sublevels"

    User Gallery:

    Models:
    • Static
    • Aircraft
    • Vehicles
    • Watercraft
    Textures:
    • Ground
    • Trees
    • Other
    Scripts:
    • JSScripts
    • ....
    • Other
    Terrain Mods:
    • HeightMaps
    • Vegetation (if it will be available)
    • Roads (if it will be available)
    • Other

    And preferably to have a template for new post creation. To keep it clean.
    !!! All model updates should be done by modifying very first message - other way it will be lost in thread. (Like Post-Comment system)

P.S. - Any empty (without downloadable model) posts should be re/moved. Again to keep it clean and easy to understand.

If we are sticking for now with the forums here for releases Deathevor's layout will work fine. I think however that in a short time it will be outgrown and a more permanent system with sorting, thumbnail previewing and a short description that leads you to the full description and photo gallery page will be needed.

+1

Also, static model section will need to have sub-levels like Buildings, Props, Natural, etc.
But this can be added by Admin as it goes.

I think deathevor his idea is quitte good.
But on the side i really think there should be a 'library' on the side where models are stored.

The forums to keep the threshold for posting low, and a database/library where the Outerra-peepz store everything.

The end-game should really be Pressing an F key in-game and having the web "store" load up and downloading models directly from in-game and having a standard formatting to auto-install. Since it would just be an actual webpage loading an actual webpage could just load and bam.. "bam" may require some clever coding but that is how it should go down.

IMHO, I think organizing the forum based on genre would be better so that you can also get a better picture of the interest levels as well;

+ flight simulation
+ car racing
+ train simulation
+ boat simulation
+ world builder
etc...

deathevor has it close to what I would like to see. mods are all developmental aspects of the engine so they could all be in the context of a main development thread

[Development] <-- (main thread)

- |Official| <-- (sub-thread of development)

{scenery design} <-- (sub-thread of official)
{model design} <-- (sub-thread of official)
{screenshots}

- |General| <-- (sub-thread of development)

{scenery design} <-- (sub-thread of general)
   {model design} <-- (sub-thread of scenery design)
     {Civil} <-- (sub-thread of model design)
        {air}
        {land}
        {sea}
        {space}
     {Commercial} <-- (sub-thread of model design)
        {air}
        {land}
        {sea}
        {space}
     {Military} <-- (sub-thread of model design)
        {air}
        {land}
        {sea}
        {space}
     {Other} <-- (sub-thread of model design)

   {texture design} <-- (sub-thread of scenery design)
   {miscellaneous} <-- (sub-thread of scenery design)

that's it for now...

All for that category idea. This game really needs a hotspot where people can look for available objects in the meantime.

Hotspot Created.. http://www.reddit.com/r/OuterraAddons/

Just make sure you post an image link and provide the download in the comments section of that post. I will make one for the M3 as a test.  Temporary at best.

Well I would appreciate a library. Look at lockonfiles.com, They have libraries for top models etc
