Weird shadows and flickering on model
« on: December 31, 2013, 05:15:49 pm »

I'm modeling an aircraft but I have shadow and flickering issues when I import it to the engine.
Weird shadows:

Flickering:

I have planar projection on.

Could it be because of bad modeling?

We noticed some issues with the shadows on people's videos too. It seems to be related to long triangles. Do you have narrow long triangles there on the wing?

Hmm, yes. I have very long triangles that lie across the entire wing (the profile of the wing real airplane's wing is almost a perfect square). So, should I cut faces to have shorter triangles to avoid flickering?

Besides, what about weird shadows? Could the cause be the same?

The long triangles are problematic because of precision issues in the hardware and shaders, so it's always good to avoid long slivers and tesselate it more. But the shadow issue may be something else, I noticed it on this user video as well: [noembed]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJqqAkAn0-g[/noembed]
