Data download stops
« on: March 28, 2014, 12:57:08 am »

Hi there, having another look in on this, the previous version I had was roughly 0.7.16 and I have updated via the auto-updater to 0.8.1.4495. But it's not downloading terrain data (wad files) any more. It starts to - but when it gets past about 1MB of the terrain file, it stops, and that's it. No errors, it just ... stops. Do I need to do a fresh install or something?

Hmm, the log doesn't indicate any terrain files being downloaded. In fact, there's no message about terrain rendering enabled, does it stop in the pre-loading phase?

Not sure why that might happen, but you can try updating your graphics drivers.

OK, downloading new drivers now, as well as the full data set. Here's a screenshot of where it gets stuck - it's downloading three at the moment, but sometimes it only starts to download one. Interestingly, it seems to always get roughly the same *total* amount of data - these three have stuck more quickly than a single download does, and the total is still roughly 1MB-ish.

It's the initial refine. Can you try downloading the file via a browser, to see if it downloads normally?

Yep, that downloads fine into a browser.

I did the full data download (and even tried uninstalling and reinstalling). After the full data download, it ran in the default spawn point, and even let me spawn a MiG and fly around. But as soon as I selected one of the other bookmark points, it went back to attempting to download, and then stalled again.

I must admit I am mystified. I have no other issues like this; there are no permission problems and the user I'm running as is an Administrator. It's weird. Previous versions ran fine.

There was no change in the networking code, as far as I know. We added servers for the terrain data, but since they download fine in the browser, it should be ok in game as well.
Full data should not make it download anything. If they do, it could mean two things - they aren't placed in the right location (C:\Users\Simon\Outerra\data\earth\...), or the checksums are wrong when read from the disk for some reason (antivirus, disk error ...) and the program tries to re-download them.

I have the same issue with downloading the data. It apeared approx 1 month ago. Just  suddenly stopped downloading of the data for a new area I've never visited before. And only the TaskManager can help me. Since that moment I cant enter the simulation: engine starts 4 downloading threads and hangs on at the same moment every time. I dont loose the hope and try to launch Outerra from time to time, but the result is always the same.
P.S. I have no antivirus, firewall, etc.I have exactly the same sympthoms as SaltyNZ

Can you guys run ping planet.anteworld.com in command line and tell me what IP address you get? Plus what's your physical location.

Ok I have encountered the same problem, the progress bar freezing after a jump. But it looks like it's a problem with updating the status - it actually continues to download on the background and after a while the world appears and everything works normally.

I'm going to debug what happens there, but could you give it some time when the download freezes, to see if it works the same way?

Aha! I've been waiting for a long time and finally got the result! Exactly the same you've told. Thanks a lot!
