Connecting FSX to Outerra
« on: July 06, 2010, 05:17:03 am »

Will it be possible to control the viewpoint/position in Outerra via a simple SDK?

Why?

In FSX its possible to extract the position of your aircraft (and the AI aircraft) using the "SimConnect" SDK.

If Outerra had a simple SDK that allowed a program to set the viewpoint position (lat/lon/altitude/heading/pitch/bank) then it would be possible to use Outerra as a world renderer for FSX.

This means I could run FSX on one computer and use a highly detailed 3rd party addon like the PMDG 747 but have my "out the window" view be displayed using Outerra on a second computer+monitor/projector.

I imagine there would be a lot of home cockpit builders that would be keen to use Outerra to render the "out the window" view whilst having their systems simulation keep running under FSX/FS9/Project Magenta/Aerowinx PF1 etc.

This type of "world renderer" capability would be attractive to other types of users too, eg miltary, scientific etc.

Anyway just a thought.

We talked about something similar in this Aerowinx thread.
It's possible.
