Trains

Hello, I've only just really discovered the Outerra engine, but I've been interested in procedural generation of planets since I started getting interested in Infinity.
Outerra seems like it's further along the development line though and looks more planet orientated than space orientated.

Anyway after seeing the road generation and seeing a picture of a train next to the truck and plane on the forum, I was wondering if there was some kind of railway generator that was planning to be incorporated.
If the game built on the Outerra engine was to be about getting resources and then transporting them long distances, I can imagine that people would very definitely want to be using trains. It seems like a natural feature to implement after the roads.

I did a search of the forum which didn't bring up any relevant results for me, so sorry if I missed another topic about this some how.

Definitely. I've been consulting with train sim guys about all the parameters that need to be considered there, but so far we didn't implement it in the engine.

You are right about Outerra being more planet oriented, that's why we are focusing on the ground detail.

mmmm..... trains, at first not appealing.

The reason is that they can only move backward and forward, but that said I've always had a fascination with model railways.

What are the possible features that could reignite my nostalgia for trains?

How about the detailed landscapes, the endless opportunitys for budding train enthusiasts to create their own train lines and help out everyone, ferrying them to lets say a large forest, offloading the dozers and constantly shipping the resources back through the countryside to the colonys.

Add a bit of competition into that with rival rail users...How's that sound? :D

Sounds awesome!  I always liked the Railroad Tycoon series games and have been anticipating a new one since 3.  The ground detail definitely looks a lot better than in RT.

Flying Scotsman is overrated, bring me a Big Boy, a Yellowstone, and a Q2.
