Terrain sinking issue
« on: April 30, 2013, 10:00:54 pm »

Unusual issue with the terrain under the water, look closely and you will see how it sinks and raises according to your distance. I even checked to see if it could be the terrain LOD settings for grass as this sort of happens when the LOD is quite low as well as the draw distance.

That's a hack in rendering water. When you change some water parameters it becomes quite visible.

Ah, ok. Now that you mention these I do recall changing the water parameters at some point. It's good to get to the bottom of it hehe excuse the pun there.

With grass there's a transition between grass envelope in the distance and actual grass blades. It's not yet handled best there, especially it's not yet tied to the terrain quality setting, and there will be one more LOD level for grass.

With water it's done for similar (performance) reasons, transparent areas in distance are replaced by a "solid" water, but the distance when it happens doesn't take the changed water visibility into account yet.
