I will say, this was a technically revolutionary epoch, but also bloody. 
If we look back, every serious short-time progress ended up whyte an nut-head going "phew phew" whyte it in both senses ... thats what is a real civilization-indicator. When such things end, it will be meaning us finally having the proper usage of our brains, or another post-civilization period ...
Germans were really revolutionary in that time, maybe because they were able to overcome some thinking dispositions and be open minded in sciences (yes, Anenerbe had some propaganda issues, anyway, theyr search trough ancient knowledge and scientific approach gave them some right directions in technology) ...
