I don't get much of the loading issue on my system, but I see a lot of dark blades probably because of the steeper angle I have the sun at.

Yeah that loading is odd. My setup doesn't do that but I have the whole dataset. But if your in that area you shouldn't need it to download anything.

I skip along the surface in this for a while and it is perfect for the whole trip.

Looks like he adjusted some settings and there's not enough GPU memory allocated for terrain rendering. A higher terrain quality, wider FOV ... all these are accounted for, but it's not yet perfect.
