Terrain won't load
« on: June 09, 2012, 01:30:46 pm »

Hello.
I've been randomly flying over Europe and when I came over to the Hel Peninsula in Poland, it won't load at certain distance.

Hmm that means either a limiter problem (not enough GPU memory reserved for the terrain) or a problem with the data. Please attach the eng.log here so we can see if there's anything in it hinting at the source of the problem.

Please try the following:
- exit the program while located above the problematic area
- rename/move the data subfolder (C:\Users\Artur\Outerra\data) temporarily
- start the program and see if the data download

Ok then try it with the default settings: move away both eng.cfg and world.cfg and try it with that.

If it doesn't show even then, or if the bug appears elsewhere, then it can be an issue with a third party application interfering with the rendering. I see AVAST logged there, but it may be something else as well.

Well, I did what you told me, and it worked partly. Partly, because now the terrain does load but the problem moved onto the nearby tile (eastward).

Try disabling the antivirus and any software that ever tries to display overlay texts on other windows. These apps inject into other apps and interfere with the rendering; in OT this problem is even more problematic because they blindly draw into whatever context is currently bound in OT.

Didn't work, but what I've noticed is that if you approach the buggy terrain from a tile that's already rendered there's a chance for the buggy terrain to actually load.

In the next update will be a better detection of the foreign injected modules, we'll be able to see better what can be causing this.

But also 301.xx Nvidia drivers can be causing problems, been reported a couple of times.

Also, you should consider getting more people to work on the game, because pulling it of with only you and AngryPig will be hard ;)

I think they are doing a brilliant job, to say most game engines have millions of pounds invested into them and have massive teams working on the development.
