Hi,

Just bought the game and am wondering if there currently is a way or if there will be a way to look up locations by maybe entering city, state, country names and have the game get the coordinates so that we can easily get to those locations?

Thanks

Use maps.google to get the lat and lon and enter those numbers into the F2 Lat/Lon/Alt tab.

At the moment there's just navigation by entering the latitude and longitude. But maybe the Google Maps API could be used to search for locations, in which case the navigation window could be extended with that functionality.

Another option is the ability to jump into photos that have GPS info tagged, that works in the development branch.

Okay.

Maybe I need a little help then (sorry)...

I'm trying to get Anteworld to locate me in Idyllwild, California, USA.

I found a site that gives long and lat numbers and looked up what I wanted (as I could not find the long and lat numbers in google maps), so I found the following for idyllwild, california

33° 44' 24" N / 116° 43' 8" W

However, when I put them into the game basically all that I see is a flat plain of ground.  What I should be seeing in Idyllwild, Ca would be that I'm at the top of a 8,000 or 10,000 foot mountain.

In the F2 options I go to Lat/Lon/Alt and enter the following (which is probably where I'm screwing up)
33°44'00.24"
116°43'00.08"

I've also tried:
33°44'24.00"
116°43'08.00"

And I've tried
33°00'44.24"
116°00'43.08"

As you can see I don't know how to properly use longitute and latitude settings to find my way around, God help me if I ever get really lost.

Thanks for the help.

I usually just press G and use the google map to fly down onto my location.

Thanks, obviously I'm going to need to find and read the documentation on this.  I didn't even know that was available in the game, once I used it I was able to quickly navigate my view to where I wanted to be.

You need to put that N and W there as well, otherwise you may end up going the other way. You can also use sign to differentiate - positive values of longitude go eastward, negative westward. In the same way, positive values of latitude go northward, negative southward.

In your case, W sets the sign to minus, so without it you went eastward.

Aha, I see.

I didn't know that I could actually just cut and paste it from the site where I found it, including the N and W directly into the game and it would understand it.  I thought I had to follow a very strict way of doing it, without adding the N and W.

It actually recognizes a wide variety of formats, like

116° 43' 8" W
-116° 43' 8"
116 43 8 W
-116.2588
