Possible to bring in aircraft from other simulators?
« on: August 15, 2012, 02:39:30 am »

I am relatively new to Outerra and it looks very good.  I was wondering if anyone knew if an aircraft from another simulator such as FlightGear or X-Plane, or  could work.  The reason I ask is I believe FlightGear uses the same flight dynamics engine and FlightGear ha a number of aircraft already available.  Thanks.

The model will need to be converted to a Collada format along with textures. The OT engine currently uses JSBSsim http://jsbsim.sourceforge.net/ for the flight dynamics.

Conversion from X-Plane will be challenging, especially if no object model exists for the aircraft in question.  As soon as the model importer is done I will be attempting conversion of *one* aircraft, namely the jet that I designed and fly in X-Plane exclusively.  I will be sure to document my adventure.
