Maybe you pressed a debug hotkey that hides the water surface .. though I don't remember what key it was 
Ah yeah, that was probably it then. I was pressing every button ingame to see which options there are since the ingame menues apparently werent explaining everything.
Anyway, thanks! Will put my money where my mouth is and buy it now
