I'm sure you're aware of this kind of stuff, but I've found a number of areas (seem to be more common in the arctic for some reason) where the terrain gets a little interesting:

Yes there are some bugs in the source terrain data in arctic and antarctic as well, will be fixed with the next terrain revision.

What source will you be using with the next terrain? Will it enable lakes and rivers? And will it deliver more detail to locations above latitude 60°?

The latest revision of data from http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/dem3.html
Rivers and lakes will be a part of the vector overlay, although the larger lake beds will be reflected in the raster terrain data at some point (to give them depth).
