Interesting bugs III - alien world

I'm currently working on our mapping tool that remaps and compresses elevation data into our format for optimized streaming and level of detail handling. For testing I'm using alpha data from ME-DEM project, provided by Redrobes and Monks from our forums.

While the data are not ready yet, I thought I would share with you some pictures of an interesting bug encountered during the process. Due to some error in the mapping, there appear some high spikes and deep pits in many places; but they look cool nevertheless. See for yourself:

Not a Middle-Earth, but it might be an inspiration for an alien fantasy world. Shawn?

Deep in the Valley of Kartoom lies a mysterious lake known only as the Lake of Shadows.  On the outskirts of the lake, high jagged peaks resembling the ancient zigarrats built by the Okono tribes of the Northern Wastes, lay in silent sentinel above the lake, a warning to trespassers of the region, "The Lake of Shadows abides no man's entry.  Ye who enter risk peril beyond death, for such is the wrath of the Gods, thy spirit will remain lost to Shadow."

No one who has ventured into the Valley of Kartoom has ever returned to tell the tale of what secrets lie within its heart.

Or something like that :)

Interesting bugs.  Can't wait to see what kind of stuff happens when my world height maps are introduced :)

The armored figure came to a place known as the Pinnacles.  Tall, conical spikes jutted out of the frying pan-flat landscape, rendering a sharp contrast.  How fitting for him.  This would be where his new land, his new idea would start.  Of all the odd places on earth, this would be the birthplace of his plan.  Though none could see, he smiled.

Or something like that.

They are the chosen pine trees! Fear them or they will invoke a terrible atrocity upon you, only capable of the fearsome pine trees!
